The physical gap between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul became clear during Thursday’s official weigh in ahead of their highly anticipated boxing match in Miami. When both fighters stepped onto the scale, the difference was impossible to ignore.

Joshua registered 243.4 pounds, while Paul came in at 216.4 pounds, creating a 27 pound separation between the two competitors. The bout takes place Friday night at Kaseya Center and serves as the main attraction of the event.

Experience meets size

Joshua enters the contest as a former two time heavyweight champion with years of experience against elite opposition. Fighting at heavyweight has been standard for him throughout his career, and his frame reflects that reality.

Paul, meanwhile, has spent most of his professional boxing journey competing closer to the cruiserweight range. Although he has gradually increased his size in recent years, this marks one of the largest weight disadvantages he has faced inside the ring.

How the matchup came together

The pairing was not originally planned. Paul had been scheduled to fight WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in November. That bout was later canceled following legal developments involving Davis, prompting organizers to secure a replacement opponent.

Joshua stepped in, and the contest was rescheduled for December, instantly shifting expectations due to the drastic difference in experience and physical dimensions.

Paul’s recent appearances

Since beginning his professional boxing career in 2020, Paul has typically weighed around or below 200 pounds. His heaviest previous outing came in November 2024, when he weighed 227.2 pounds for a bout against boxing legend Mike Tyson. That fight went the distance and resulted in a unanimous decision victory for Paul.

Paul enters Friday’s contest with a professional record of 12 wins and 1 loss, continuing his effort to prove himself against increasingly established opponents.

Joshua looking to rebound

Joshua holds a career record of 28 wins and 4 losses. Prior to his most recent defeat, he had built momentum with four consecutive victories, including a knockout win over former UFC and PFL champion Francis Ngannou.

That streak earned him a title opportunity against Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight championship. The fight ended in the fifth round, marking a setback for Joshua as he now seeks a return to form.

Also featured on the main card is a clash between former UFC champions Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley, set at a 195 pound catchweight. Both fighters previously faced Paul, with Silva losing a decision and Woodley suffering two defeats, one by knockout.

The co main event showcases Alycia Baumgardner defending her super featherweight title. She weighed 129.2 pounds, while challenger Leila Beaudoin hit the championship limit at 130 pounds.
