Terence Crawford Claims WBA Jr. Middleweight Title in Close Decision Win Over Israil Madrimov – Crawford vs. Madrimov Results (Highlights)

Crawford has now one titles in four different weight classes

Former undisputed two-division world champion Terence Crawford returned to the ring on Saturday night determined to add another accolade to his legacy. 

Emanating from BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, Crawford squared off with defending WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov in a bid to win championship gold in a fourth weight class. Overall, ‘Bud’ is a perfect 40-0 in his pro boxing career with 31 of his wins coming by way of knockout. Like his opponent, Madrimov is also unbeaten, going 10-0 with a 70% finish rate. 

Round 1

Madrimov comes out and takes control of the center of the ring as Crawford pumps his jab while circling the ring. Crawford throws a left, but there’s not much on it. With 60 seconds left in the round, there has been little in the way of offense. Catching Crawford in the corner, Madrimov lets a few shots fly. Crawford returns fire and eats a counter right for his trouble. 

Round 2

More of the same in round two with Madrimov controlling the ring, but throwing little. Crawford keeps working his jab. Crawford throws a one-two and follows it up with a jab, then another. Madrimov lets a right hand go followed by another that splits the guard of Crawford. The crowd is getting a little restless as the action is few and far between. Crawford throws a right, but there’s nothing there. Madrimov returns fire with a right hand of his own just before the end of the round. 

Round 3

Crawford comes out and throws a couple of jabs immediately. Crawford starts to open up a bit, throwing a three-punch combo. Madrimov fires back, landing a right to the body. Madrimov gets Crawford into the corner but is content to continue posture rather than letting his hands go. Crawford circles out and Madrimov lands a right hand. Crawford responds with a nice uppercut that connects. A jab from Crawford lands. Madrimov misses the mark with a couple of rights but lands with the left jab as the round ends. 

Round 4

Crawford gets things started with a left to the body followed up with a right up top. A one-two from Crawford partially connects. Madrimov responds by attacking the body. Madrimov comes back with a pair of big right hands. Crawford makes him pay with a fantastic body shot. Crawford puts everything he’s got into a right hand, but Madrimov sees it coming and ducks under. 

As Crawford continues to increase his volume, it’s clear that he has the speed advantage. A big right hand from Madrimov connects. Crawford comes back with an uppercut. A clean right hand from Madrimov hits the chin of Crawford. ‘Bud’ is unable to answer back before the bell sounds. 

Round 5

Crawford goes back to the jab but is struggling to hit the very-mobile Madrimov. The defending champ closes the distance, but during their exchange, he inadvertently trips Crawford, sitting him down on the mat. Crawford gets back up and Madrimov lands a nice right hand. Crawford is again unable to answer. 

Round 6

Crawford opens up the sixth with a body shot. Madrimov comes back with a one-two, but can’t get through the guard of Crawford. ‘Bud’ comes back with a three-hit combo punctuated by a body blow. Madrimov throws a hard left and Crawford shakes it off. Madrimov throws the same strike again. Crawford doubles up on the jab and Madrimov throws a looping right hand over the top that hits nothing, but air. 

Crawford ends the round stalking Madrimov and landing a couple of shots in the corner. 

Round 7

Crawford connects with a right hand right out of the gate. Madrimov continues to bob and weave. Crawford throws the double jab. Crawford throws another right but misses. Madrimov ducks his way in, but Crawford’s hand speed makes him pay with a couple of shots in close. Madrimov continues to stalk and lands a slock counter right near the ropes. 

A right from Crawford misses as Madrimov ducks under. Madrimov throws a straight right, then another. Crawford throws a right and is met with a one-two from Madrimov. Crawford connects with a jab prompting Madrimov to try and respond just as the seventh-round bell sounds. 

Round 8

Crawford lands a couple of jabs early as Madrimov dances around in front of him. Crawford stands in front of Madrimov and lets his opponent tee off on him. Madrimov fails to break through the guard with a combination. As we reach the final minute of the round, both fighters start throwing heavy with Madrimov landing a single looping shot while Crawford comes back with a combination. 

Madrimov lands and awkward looking overhand right and clinches up with Crawford. The referee separates them, but there’s no time left to get in any more offense. 

Round 9 

Crawford fires off a heavyweight left followed by a right. Madrimov moves in and tries to respond, but Crawford sidesteps, nearly prompting Madrimov to fly through the ring ropes. The referee re-centers them and Crawford lands a left followed by a couple of super-quick jabs. Madrimov lands a right hand. Crawford responds with a left to the body as Madrimov counters with a left of his own. 

Crawford moves in and catches another left from Madrimov. Crawford is struggling to connect and goes back to his double jab. Crawford rips to the body and Madrimov slips as he circles away. Madrimov regains his footing and Crawford lands another jab just before the bell.  

Round 10

Crawford lands a stiff body shot and Madrimov comes back with a right hand followed by a left uppercut. Crawford returns fire with an uppercut of his own. Crawford lands a right but gets caught with a glancing left from Madrimov as he circles away. Madrimov ducks under a right from Crawford and throws a stiff straight right. Madrimov goes back to the right and Crawford comes back with the double jab. 

Madrimov throws an uppercut from far away. Crawford counters with a right but eats a straight right from Madrimov in return. 

Round 11

Madrimov lands a straight right hand. Crawford partially connects with a one-time in return. Madrimov closes the distance and clinches up, but is quickly separated. Madrimov throws a right hand with some stank on it. Crawford attempts to respond but finds another right waiting for him. Madrimov throws a right but fails to split the guard of his opponent. 

Madrimov throws a couple of wild shots in close and clinches up against the ropes. Madrimov overextends himself and Crawford makes him pay with a booming one-two-three. Seemingly overwhelmed, Madrimov clinches up and rides out the final few seconds of the round.

Round 12

Crawford comes out firing right away in the final round. Crawford throws a right hand followed by a jab. Madrimov closes in and lands a solid left hook on the inside, but Crawford takes it well. Crawford comes back with a pair of uppercuts. Crawford fires another combination. Madrimov attempts to respond with a couple of lefts followed by a big right hand. Madrimov lands two more stinging rights as he attempts to snatch the momentum back from Crawford. 

Crawford and Madrimov trade shots in the corner before the former circles away. Madrimov attempts to swing away in the final 10 seconds, but Crawford is content to circle the ring and avoid putting himself in any potential danger.
