Terence Crawford, a top boxing champ, has high praise for the UFC. In a chat on Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru & Henry on March 27, 2025, he explained why he thinks the UFC treats its fighters better than boxing does. Crawford, who’s won world titles in four weight classes, pointed out how the two sports handle losses and big fights differently. His take comes from years at the top of boxing, and he’s got clear reasons for liking the UFC way.

Crawford started with their fight timing.

“UFC do have a good way of putting on the best fights at the right time,” he said. “Not only that.” He also loves how they stick with fighters. “One thing I love about the UFC is that a guy can lose and still be supported,” he said.

In boxing, he sees a harsher game.

“Nowadays in boxing, Floyd Mayweather made it to where you lose and they’re kicking you to the curb and saying you’re a bum, you’re this, you’re that,” he added.

Mayweather’s perfect 50-0 set a tough mark.

UFC Stays Loyal While Boxing Judges Hard

That mark changed boxing, Crawford thinks.

“He left with an unblemished record, and he set the bar high,” he said. “So, now everybody is trying to protect the 0 because you get one loss, now you got to go way to the back of the bus.”

A single defeat can sink a fighter’s stock fast.

“It’s like, dude lost to a good fighter. You know what I mean?” he said, annoyed at the overreaction. “Now it’s like dang. Your shine is off now because of the fans and the media and how they go around,” he noted.

UFC keeps stars in the mix, but boxing pushes them aside.

Crawford’s lived the boxing life. At 37, he’s 41-0, beating Errol Spence Jr. in July 2023 to unify welterweight titles and Israil Madrimov in August 2024 to claim the WBA super welterweight belt, his fourth division crown. The UFC keeps champs like Conor McGregor front and center even after defeats.

He’s pushing for a 2025 clash with Canelo Alvarez, a fight fans have buzzed about since his Madrimov win. With a wrestling background, he’s also teased stepping into the UFC, maybe even facing Conor McGregor.
