Teofimo Lopez got his third-division belt, but Rolly Romero made him walk through a little chaos before handing it over. Lopez defeated Romero by majority decision in the Rolly vs. Teofimo main event on Saturday night, taking the WBA welterweight title at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with scorecards of 114-114, 115-113, and 116-112.
This was not some clean coronation where Lopez floated in, took the belt, and left with his hair perfect. Romero had him buzzed in the middle rounds, the crowd woke up, and the fight briefly turned into the kind of weird Rolly boxing storm where the whole thing can go sideways in one exchange. Lopez, who already had a decision win over Arnold Barboza Jr. in his recent title run, steadied it and did enough late to leave with Romero’s belt.

Lopez Survived The Rolly Moment And Took Over Late
Lopez entered this one trying to turn a noisy move to 147 pounds into something real. Early on, he looked sharper and more organized, using his jab, body work, and cleaner counters while Romero waited too long for the perfect left hook. That patient, sometimes frustrating pace helped Lopez bank rounds while Romero searched for one big answer.
Romero finally found it around the fourth and fifth rounds. He clipped Lopez with the counter he had been hunting, opened a cut near Lopez’s right eye, and had him backing up while the building started believing in full Rolly nonsense. It was the dangerous part of the fight, and it gave Romero a real path on the cards instead of just a moral-victory highlight.

The problem for Romero was the same problem that has followed plenty of talented chaos merchants. Once the surge faded, Lopez went back to doing the steadier work. He jabbed, dug to the body, and landed the cleaner right hands while Romero spent too much time moving, staring, and waiting for another explosion that never really arrived.
By the championship rounds, Lopez had turned the fight back into a discipline test. Romero needed urgency, maybe even a full Just Bleed rally, but Lopez kept walking him down and picking at the body. It was not a demolition. It was a belt grab by a fighter who remembered that boring minutes still count when the judges are writing numbers down.
The result also gives Lopez a much louder place in a welterweight mix still shaped by Ryan Garcia drama outside the ropes. Lopez now moves to 23-2, while Romero falls to 17-3 after losing the belt he won from Ryan Garcia in 2025.
Romero still brings danger, personality, and the kind of awkward timing that makes normal boxers look like they are trying to solve a bar fight in real time. Lopez brought the better full-fight game. On a weekend that has already had other WBA title surprises in boxing, Lopez made his own leap at welterweight and walked out with the hardware.
