Ryan Garcia Suspended For One Year by NYSAC Following Failed Drug Tests, Declares He’s ‘Headed to the UFC’

Garcia's win over Devin Haney was overturned to a no contest, prompting 'King Ryan' to unleash his frustration on social media

Ryan Garcia won’t be boxing anytime soon.

‘King Ryan’ scored the biggest win of his career in April when he scored a majority decision victory over Devin Haney in April. Unfortunately, that victory no longer stands. The New York State Athletic Commission ruled to overturn Garcia’s win to a no-contest after he failed pre and post-match drug tests.

Despite vehemently denying the allegations, Garcia accepted a one-year suspension from the NYSAC. As a result, he will forfeit his contract purse of $1.1 million which will go to Golden Boy Promotions with Haney likely getting a percentage of it. Garcia will also pay a $10,000 fine to the commission.

Unsurprisingly, the California native took to social media and delivered a series of scathing rants regarding the situation.

Garcia was far from done, declaring that he would leave behind the world of boxing to test his skills inside the Octagon.

Garcia’s team released an official statement regarding the suspension and subsequent fine, saying:

“Ryan Garcia was a victim of substance contamination, with levels measured in the billions and trillions of a gram, which provided no advantage whatsoever in the ring. Ryan, with his legal team, has resolved this issue and firmly maintains his truth: he never intentionally took any banned substance. It’s simply not in his nature.

“For many years, Ryan has voluntarily submitted to random testing, even during out-of-competition periods, and has never had any issues. He has maintained an impeccable and clean record throughout his career, significantly elevating and transcending the sport of boxing, earning respect and admiration from millions of fans worldwide.

“The fans will always remember his performance against Haney as a masterclass, and that will never be erased. Ryan will continue to elevate the sport and will be actively involved in advocating for reform. We hope future changes in our system will address issues like this one. We want to thank all of the fans who have continued to support Ryan, not only during the great moments but also through the difficult times that life brings. He will be back in the ring soon and better than ever!”

Bill Haney, the father and coach of Devin Haney, also chimed in on Instagram, warning that everyone who is still trying to protect Ryan Garcia will inevitably go down with the ship.

“Listen, this doesn’t surprise me that Ryan Garcia is talking about retiring and that he’s not going to stand up for his fate in 48 hours,” Haney said. “Everybody’s been protecting him, but your running out of time. In 48 hours, your boy Ryan Garcia will be suspended, and you networks, promoters, and everybody that’s been trying to protect him… you’re gonna go down with the ship. Mark my words.”
