- Evander Holyfield challenged Mike Tyson to a trilogy fight
- “Iron Mike” is not keen on the idea and wants to remain friends with “The Real Deal”
Evander Holyfield called Mike Tyson out for a third fight and got an unexpected reply from his old foe.
Holyfield calls for trilogy
Seemingly motivated by the Jake Paul vs. Tyson fight, Holyfield has expressed a strong desire to step into the ring again. The boxing legend is not targeting Paul but is calling for a third fight with “Iron Mike.”
According to “The Real Deal,” the fans are yearning for it and they should give them what they want.
“The fans want it,” Holyfield wrote in an Instagram post.
However, Tyson has made it clear that he no longer shares the same enthusiasm for another rematch. The 58-year-old regards Holyfield as a true friend and has chosen to prioritize their friendship over their past rivalry.
“I love you brother, but the trilogy is our friendship,” Tyson replied in the comment section.
It wasn’t the first time Holyfield vs. Tyson 3 was discussed
Back in 2021, Holyfield vs. Tyson 3 had already been discussed by both parties. However, Holyfield’s team claimed that Tyson’s team rejected a $25 million offer.
Weeks later, “Iron Mike” addressed the issue and said he might consider a trilogy bout with “The Real Deal” for the right price. However, nothing really came to fruition.
The excitement surrounding a possible trilogy match between the two legendary boxers has stirred up memories of their iconic previous matches. It can be recalled that Holyfield TKO’d Tyson in their first meeting in 1996. The rematch took place in 1997 in which Tyson lost via disqualification after infamously biting Holyfield’s ear.
As it stands, Tyson is coming off a decision loss to Paul. Holyfield meanwhile, lost to MMA legend Vitor Belfort in their exhibition match back in 2021.
