MVPW-06 already had the Jake Paul and Eddie Hearn business machine humming. Now Mikaela Mayer and Chantelle Cameron are trying to make sure the main event feels less like a boardroom flex and more like a proper three-belt fistfight.
Mayer and Cameron met at Tuesday’s kickoff news conference for their Aug. 29 junior middleweight title unifier at BP Pulse Live in Birmingham, England. Mayer brings the WBO and WBC belts. Cameron brings the WBA strap, home-country heat, and the resume line every fighter in women’s boxing respects, because she is still the only pro to beat Katie Taylor.

The card also picked up more shine when Skye Nicolson joined Most Valuable Promotions and landed her own world-title defense on the Birmingham show. That gives MVP and Matchroom a stacked women’s boxing night, but the headliner is the one with real no-flinch energy.
Mayer Wants It Violent, But Not Close
Mayer, who is 22-2 with 5 knockouts, knows exactly how annoying a close scorecard in the United Kingdom can get. She lost split decisions to Alycia Baumgardner in 2022 and Natasha Jonas in 2024, and she made it clear she does not plan on letting this one turn into another late-night scorecard argument.
“We can both box because we come from amateur pedigree, but if you look at our pro fights we do tend to come forward and let our hands go. You’re definitely going to see that at some point,” Mayer said at the news conference.
That is the fun part of this matchup. Mayer is not selling some chess-match snoozer dressed up as greatness. She is saying both women have the skill to box and the temperament to bite down, trade, and turn the pocket into a bad neighborhood.
“We’re getting each other in our prime … You’re getting this fight while we’re both still very strong and dominant and there’s no way you’re not going to get an action-packed fight from us. I’m predicting female fight of the year, 100%.”
Then came the line Cameron will probably hear more than once before fight week fully arrives.
“I’m just confident in myself. I’m not going to make it close. I’m that confident in my skills right now. It doesn’t matter where we are.”
Cameron, 22-1 with 8 knockouts, is not walking into this as some belt-holder happy to be invited. She has been in the deepest end of the pool with Taylor, lost the rematch by majority decision, and still carries the kind of pressure game that can make slick fighters spend three minutes at a time solving fires.
“I’m a different breed. The tougher my challenge the better I am. I know Mikaela is a tough test and that’s going to bring the best out in me,” Cameron said.
That is why this works. Mayer wants to erase the drama of close UK scorecards. Cameron wants the best fighting the best without the usual boxing calendar nonsense. Their shared pitch is simple enough. Three belts, two prime fighters, and no room for soft matchmaking.
“It’s going to be good. Hopefully for women’s boxing, more fights like this happen, the best fight the best. Get the contracts signed, get in the ring and fight each other. Stop talking and get down to action.”

For MVP, this is another chance to prove the women’s boxing push has teeth beyond press-release confetti. For Mayer and Cameron, it is a nasty little legacy shortcut. Win here and the winner owns three belts, a monster talking point, and a clean argument for whatever huge fight comes next in a division that suddenly has traffic. After the way Katie Taylor and Cameron split their two-fight rivalry, nobody should need a lecture on how quickly one elite women’s boxing night can turn into chaos.
And with MVP still building around Amanda Serrano and its broader women’s boxing lane, Mayer vs. Cameron is exactly the kind of fight that has to deliver in the ring. The suits got the alliance done. Now the fighters have to make the violence match the pitch.
