Former boxing champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko enter another fight, but this time it’s not for a world title. This next battle will be for their country.
Ukraine vs. Russia
Russia is hitting the boxers’ home country of Ukraine hard, invading the land with military force.
The Klitschko’s aren’t going to stand by and doing nothing. They are going to ‘take up arms’ against Russia. The former champions would enlist in the Ukraine reserve three weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine this week.
Responding To The Invasion
Vitali may be the city mayor of Kyiv, Ukraine, but that won’t stop him from joining the fight. Next to him, his brother Wladimir believes Russia’s invasion is a ‘senseless war’, having no winners or losers. He’d call for help in a recent video.
“I’m calling to all international partners to observe this tragedy that is happening nowadays in Ukraine,” Wladimir said. “I just want to tell you we must stay united against this aggression, against Russian aggression. Don’t let it continue happening in Ukraine. Don’t let it happen in Europe and eventually the world. United we’re strong. Support Ukraine.”
“The world is watching how reckless and deadly imperialism is, not just for #Ukraine but the whole world,” Wladimir wrote on Twitter. “Let history be a lesson to not be repeated.”
Vitali Sounds Off
While the war may be a very bloody one, mayor Vitali is more than ready to stand against Russian invaders.
“I don’t have another choice,” Vitali told Good Morning Britain. “I have to [fight].”
