Jake Paul’s latest boxing challenge ended with a serious injury and an unexpected trip to the hospital.

On Friday night in Miami, Paul stepped into the ring against former heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua in a high profile boxing bout that streamed live on Netflix. The contest came to a close in the sixth round when Joshua landed a clean right hand that stopped the fight and left Paul visibly hurt.

Injury confirmed after the fight

Shortly after the bout, Paul’s business partner at Most Valuable Promotions, Nakisa Bidarian, addressed the situation during the post fight press conference and confirmed the severity of the damage.

“We think he broke his jaw,” Bidarian said. “He’s fine. We met with Netflix afterwards. He took a shower, he drove himself to the hospital. A broken jaw is very common in sports, particularly in boxing or MMA. I think the recovery time from the doctors and surgeons we’ve already talked to is four to six weeks.”

Despite the injury, Paul did not immediately leave the arena. According to Bidarian, he handled media obligations, cleaned up, and then transported himself for medical care.

Paul later confirmed the diagnosis himself, sharing a hospital video alongside his brother Logan Paul with the message, “Broken jaw guys, thanks for all the support, I’m OK.”

A tough night against a bigger opponent

The fight itself saw Paul attempt to manage Joshua’s size and power early by circling and clinching. As the rounds progressed, Joshua began to find his rhythm and increase pressure, landing heavier shots as Paul slowed.

Joshua’s size advantage became a decisive factor as the bout wore on. The finishing blow came midway through round six, when a right hand connected flush and forced the referee to step in.

Praise despite the loss

Even in defeat, Bidarian expressed pride in Paul’s performance, emphasizing the challenge of facing an elite heavyweight on limited preparation.

“Ultimately, Jake Paul lasted a lot longer than anyone said he was going to,” Bidarian said. “I think he might have won a round or two, or three. He was doing tremendously well in there against a person who is vastly more skilled, vastly larger, vastly more powerful, and he did it on four weeks’ preparation.”

Bidarian also pointed to the physical toll of Joshua’s clinch work as a turning point late in the fight.

“I think a great, great game plan and preparation, unbelievable heart,” he added. “The reality is, Jake lost because of the size difference, not because of the skill difference. AJ was hanging on that neck, pushing him down, and when you have someone that heavy constantly doing that, it does suck the energy out of you.”

The knockout marked the first stoppage loss of Paul’s professional boxing career. His only previous defeat came via decision against Tommy Fury in 2023.

With a confirmed broken jaw and a projected recovery window of four to six weeks, Paul’s immediate focus will be healing before making any decisions about his next move in the ring.

For now, the YouTuber turned boxer has made it clear that despite the injury, his spirits remain intact and his journey in combat sports is far from over.
