Jake Paul is aware of Oscar De La Hoya’s big-time praise of him and he’s appreciative but he’s also confident.
Paul has gone from YouTube star to a boxing attraction. Say what you will about his credentials but “The Problem Child” has certainly carved out a niche in the world of combat sports. He also has some legitimate punching power, knocking out former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley with one punch in their late 2021 rematch.
De La Hoya, a boxing icon and a top promoter, recently said he can see Jake beating world-class boxers in due time.
Jake Paul Agrees With Oscar De La Hoya
Jake Paul took to TMZ Sports and admitted that while he is humbled by Oscar De La Hoya’s praise, he plans to live up to that standard.
“To hear that from [De La Hoya] means a lot, but he’s right and I’ve been saying it all along. I sound so cocky, ‘he’s right!’, but it’s true man. I beat world champions in the gym and sparring.
“Two years as a professional and I’m already doing that, it’s clearly a natural talent that I have, a natural power that I have and I work my ass off. People don’t really see that.
“They think I just go in there but I’m day in, day out twice a day, three times a day in the gym working on getting better in the sport. It is awesome to hear that and I’m gonna prove that I can beat world champions on the big stage.”
Paul will be watching Tommy Fury’s next fight with intrigue. Jake and Tommy were initially set to fight in late 2021 but Fury pulled out of the fight due to a broken rib. Tommy will go one-on-one with Daniel Bocianski and a victory could mean the showdown with Paul finally comes to fruition.
