Jake Paul is stepping back into the boxing ring for his first fight since beating Mike Tyson in November 2024. The YouTuber turned boxer will face former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on June 28, 2025, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The 10-round cruiserweight bout, set at the division’s 200-pound weight limit, will stream live on DAZN pay-per-view, giving fans a chance to see if Paul can keep his winning streak alive against another ex-world champion.
Paul, 28, is coming off a unanimous decision win over 58-year-old Mike Tyson that drew a record 65 million households on Netflix. Despite the hype, the fight was criticized for its lack of action, with Tyson landing just 18 punches over eight rounds. Paul now holds an 11-1 record with 7 knockouts, his only loss being a split decision to Tommy Fury in 2023.
Chavez Jr, 39, has a record of 54-6-1 with 34 knockouts. He last fought in July 2024, beating ex-UFC fighter Uriah Hall on the undercard of Paul’s fight with Mike Perry.
What Fighters Are Saying About the Big Showdown
Both fighters are confident heading into the June clash.
Paul shared his thoughts in a statement to ESPN, saying:
“Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after a single amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion. I just defeated the baddest man on the planet, and now I’m going against a former champion who conman Canelo couldn’t finish. Chavez Jr is Mexican, but I, El Gallo De Dorado, have the will and heart of the great Mexican fighters. On Saturday June 28, live on DAZN pay-per-view, I will knock out Julio and make Chavez Sr proud in ways Jr never has.”
Chavez Jr responded with his own statement, saying:
“First of all, I will show what I can do now that everything is in the right place in my life, mentally and physically. I feel rejuvenated and 10 years younger. Second, I want to thank MVP for taking the risk of fighting me. Unfortunately for their Problem Child, they’re going to have a big problem this June one they won’t know how to resolve. Hopefully, when I beat him, people won’t underestimate this win.”
Chavez Jr held the WBC middleweight title from 2011 to 2012, defending it three times before losing to Sergio Martinez. He’s faced big names like Canelo Alvarez in 2017, where he lost a shutout decision, and Daniel Jacobs in 2019, who stopped him in round five. Paul and Chavez Jr share a common opponent in Anderson Silva. Paul beat Silva by unanimous decision in 2022, while Chavez Jr lost to him in 2021. The co-main event features Gilberto Ramirez defending his WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles against Yuniel Dorticos, adding more excitement to the card.
This fight marks a step up for Paul, who has been criticized for facing older or less active opponents. Chavez Jr, despite being past his prime, brings a famous name and boxing pedigree as the son of legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. The event, co-promoted by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, is set to draw big attention as Paul aims to prove himself against another former champion.
