Jai Opetaia will no longer hold the IBF Cruiserweight title after the organization withdrew sanction for his upcoming fight against Brandon Glanton. The match is scheduled for March 8, 2026, in Las Vegas at the Zuffa Boxing 4 event.
An IBF spokesperson said:
“The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has withdrawn sanction of the optional defense of the IBF Cruiserweight title between champion Jai Opetaia and #15 ranked contender Brandon Glanton scheduled for March 8, 2026. With sanction withdrawn, the Opetaia vs. Glanton bout is now an Unsanctioned Contest.”
The statement also cited IBF rules:
“IBF Rule 5.H. states in part – ‘An Unsanctioned Contest is a fight which the IBF has not formally approved for sanction or where sanction has been formally withdrawn. If a Champion participates in an unsanctioned contest within his prescribed weight limit, the title will be declared vacant whether the Champion wins or loses the bout’.”
This means Opetaia will lose the IBF title no matter the result of the fight.

Opetaia addresses the rumors
Before the ruling, Opetaia (29-0) spoke at a press conference for Zuffa Boxing 4, denying that the IBF title would be off the line.
“Yes, it will be [on the line] — don’t listen to rumors,” he said.
“Don’t believe everything you see on the Internet because everyone is spreading rumors. I am very grateful that the boys have been on board.
“It is my dream to become undisputed, and unless everyone doesn’t work together toward that dream, I can not accomplish that.”

What this means for Zuffa Boxing
The ruling is a setback for Zuffa Boxing and Opetaia. Dana White’s promotion does not cooperate with established sanctioning bodies, including the IBF, WBC, WBO, and WBA. This stance has already drawn criticism from boxing figures such as Oscar de La Hoya, Mauricio Sulaiman, and Eddie Hearn, particularly regarding the legitimacy of Zuffa titles and events.
Despite this, Zuffa Boxing continues to offer large payouts, which may attract fighters even if they cannot compete for traditional belts. Reports suggest Conor Benn is set to earn $15 million for a single fight later this year.
The Opetaia vs Glanton match will continue as planned on March 8 in Las Vegas. Even without IBF recognition, it remains a high-profile fight and marks the first championship event for Zuffa Boxing 4.
