Gervonta “Tank” Davis walked out of a Miami jail on July 12, 2025, escorted by three corrections officers. The lightweight boxing champion was arrested the previous morning for a domestic violence incident from June 15, 2025. Video of his release, showing him with a shirt over his head, spread online quickly. The arrest stems from an alleged altercation with his ex-girlfriend, the mother of two of his children, in Doral, Florida.
According to police reports, Davis went to pick up his kids on Father’s Day. An argument broke out, and he allegedly struck his ex-girlfriend on the back of the head and slapped her face, causing a small cut on her lip. She texted her mother during the incident, who described her as upset. Police used a license plate reader to locate Davis in Miami Beach, leading to his arrest.
Davis’ Legal Past
This isn’t Davis’ first legal issue. In 2020, he faced a battery charge in Miami after an altercation at a charity basketball game, ending in probation. In 2022, he was involved in a Baltimore hit-and-run that injured four people, resulting in house arrest and community service. In 2023, he served 44 days in jail for violating probation terms from that case. No charges have been dropped for this latest incident, and he has a court date set for July 29, 2025, after posting a $10,000 bond.
What’s Next for Tank
Davis, with a 30-0-1 record and 28 knockouts, remains the WBA lightweight champion. His latest fight, a controversial draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025, has a rematch scheduled for August 16, 2025, in Las Vegas. Roach confirmed the fight is still on, despite the arrest. Other potential opponents, like Shakur Stevenson or Devin Haney, are also in talks for future bouts.

Davis’ team has not commented on the arrest. His history shows he’s navigated legal troubles before while staying dominant in the ring. The July incident adds another hurdle, but Davis is expected to push forward with his boxing career. His next steps, both in court and the ring, will draw close attention.
