With less than two weeks before his exhibition match with Jake Paul on November 14, Gervonta “Tank” Davis is confronting a new civil lawsuit alleging domestic violence.
Filed in Miami-Dade County, the lawsuit accuses Davis of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, according to ESPN.
The suit reportedly comes from ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel, who claims she was in a five-month relationship with Davis marked by multiple incidents of domestic abuse.
One incident allegedly occurred recently at a Miami gentlemen’s club where Rossel worked. The lawsuit claims Davis confronted her, dragged her through a back exit, and assaulted her in the parking area.
History of Legal Troubles
This is not the first time Davis has faced legal action. A prior domestic violence case brought by the mother of two of his children was dismissed earlier this year. Davis also received three years of probation and 90 days of house arrest following a 2023 hit-and-run in Baltimore.
In addition, video footage from 2020 shows Davis at a charity basketball event allegedly grabbing a former partner by the neck and forcing her toward an exit.
The new civil complaint claims that Davis threatened Rossel’s life multiple times. One September incident reportedly involved Davis accusing Rossel of infidelity and texting, “I’ll kill you.” The lawsuit further states that he allegedly choked her later the same day in public at a restaurant.
Rossel’s attorneys are requesting a jury trial and are seeking compensatory and punitive damages, claiming that she continues to suffer from post-traumatic stress related to the alleged events.
As the lawsuit unfolds, Davis is preparing for his highly publicized exhibition match with Jake Paul at Miami’s Kaseya Center, set for November 14. The fight will stream live on Netflix and serves as the headline bout of the card.
Davis last competed in March, retaining his WBA lightweight championship in a draw against Lamont Roach. There is currently no indication that the new civil suit will affect his scheduled bout with Paul.
