Gervonta Davis Ready For A Fight With Loma Sometime Next Year
Gervonta Davis is one of the most exciting young fighters in boxing. However, he is ready for the next step up in competition, with a bout against Vasyl Lomachenko.
Davis is the undefeated WBA super featherweight champion. He is fresh off of a TKO win over Ricardo Nunez, and continues to look great. Despite this, he is looking for an even bigger challenge, against an established fighter, in Lomachenko.
The two were competing in the same division at one point, so there was talk of them fighting. However, the talks never went anywhere, with some people saying Davis was avoiding the fight. Yet now, when asked by TMZ if he wants to fight Loma, Davis seems very certain he wants the match.
“Of course. Just as a boxing fan, you know, there’s top guys fighting each other. So definitely looking for that. Maybe beginning of 2020 or things like that, middle or the end [of 2020].
I think I’m old enough to take on the challenge. I think I have enough skills. I’m maturing as a fighter and as a person. So I think it’s time. That’s one of the biggest fights. Me and him or Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. I think they’re the two biggest fights that everyone wants to see in the sport right now”
Although this is a far cry from some of the things he has said previously, Davis seems interested in the fight. However, he does make it clear that he has no exact time in mind to make it happen. He concluded the discussion with a final message for Lomachenko.
“Just keep winning and someday we’ll get in there.”
