Daniel Cormier feels it’s in Kamaru Usman’s best interest to avoid boxing Canelo Alvarez.

Usman is the reigning UFC Welterweight Champion and the number one pound-for-pound fighter on the official UFC rankings. Canelo is widely regarded as the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world.

“The Nigerian Nightmare” has been calling for a showdown with Canelo and has expressed his belief that it would be “the biggest event ever and in combat sports history.”

Canelo thinks Usman is simply looking for a massive payday.

DC Wants Kamaru Usman To Avoid Canelo Alvarez

When it comes to the sweet science, Usman is at a clear disadvantage against someone as elite as Canelo Alvarez. That’s why during an episode of the DC & RC Show, Daniel Cormier said he does not want to see Usman box Canelo.

“Listen, Kamaru Usman’s my brother. That’s my brother, I love him to death and I would love for him to get the bag but the reality is this; you cannot fight Canelo Alvarez. Let me tell you one reason; the main reason you can’t fight Canelo, Canelo’s a Mexican fighter with a ton of pride.

“He ain’t gonna carry him like many people believe Floyd Mayweather did for Conor McGregor. Canelo will try to hurt you. So, no I’m tapping out because I care about the well-being of my brother. You don’t go into the boxing arena and fight a guy like Canelo.”

Cormier then joked that Usman should look for a way to get his money with Canelo without boxing him.

“The dude puts everything into his punches and he demolishes professional boxers. So, yeah I’m tapping out man. I don’t wanna see it. Let’s see if we can just negotiate an encounter where you could get the money against Canelo without actually having to fight Canelo.”

Canelo is scheduled to challenge Dmitry Bivol for the WBA light heavyweight title on May 7. After that bout, the plan for Matchroom Boxing is to book the trilogy fight between Canelo and Gennady Golovkin.
