On May 17, 2025, Cris Cyborg electrified fans at Fight Night 3 San Jose, securing a first-round technical knockout against Precious Harris-McCray. The event unfolded at Tech CU Arena in San Jose, California, drawing 4,374 spectators. Cyborg’s performance underscored her growing prowess in professional boxing.

The 39-year-old Brazilian, trained by Jose Benavidez in Las Vegas, needed less than two minutes to dispatch her opponent. Harris-McCray, a Seattle native with a 4-1 record and three knockouts, showed early resilience but crumbled under Cyborg’s barrage of hooks and a devastating right hand. The referee halted the bout at 1:57, marking Cyborg’s fifth boxing win, four by knockout, keeping her undefeated at 5-0.

A Storied Career Across Combat Sports

Cris Cyborg, born Cristiane Justino, is a trailblazer in mixed martial arts. She debuted in MMA on May 17, 2005, exactly 20 years before this boxing milestone. Despite an initial submission loss, she rebounded to claim titles in Strikeforce, Invicta FC, UFC, Bellator, and the PFL. Her MMA record stands at 27-2 with one no-contest, including a seven-fight win streak. In October 2024, she captured the PFL Women’s Featherweight Superfight Championship via decision against Larissa Pacheco.

Cyborg ventured into boxing in 2022, building a perfect record with knockouts in Colombia earlier in 2025 against Karen Fernandez and Valentina Angarita. Her Fight Night 3 performance, promoted by Scott Coker and Gilbert Melendez, highlighted her refined striking.

San Jose holds deep meaning for Cyborg. In 2009, she made history there by defeating Gina Carano to become the inaugural Strikeforce women’s featherweight champion in the first nationally televised women’s MMA main event. This victory at Fight Night 3, a platform launched by Coker and Melendez to showcase emerging and veteran talent, felt like a homecoming. The event featured 18 fights, with the main event seeing Lake Gee defeat Bobby Seronio III by second-round TKO.

Cyborg’s preparation was meticulous. She trained rigorously, respecting Harris-McCray’s skills and recognizing the differences between MMA and boxing. Her goal is to become the first fighter to hold world championships in both sports simultaneously, with potential matchups against boxing elites like Cecilia Braekhus looming.

This victory solidified Cyborg’s legacy as a combat sports pioneer. With only a few fights left in her “Legacy Tour,” including a planned PFL title defense later in 2025, she continues to inspire. Her performance at Fight Night 3 San Jose reaffirmed her as a relentless force, captivating fans and setting the stage for future challenges.
