UFC superstar Conor McGregor was spotted ringside when his fellow Dubliner and undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor was handed her first loss.

Still a wonderful performance

McGregor made sure that he was in attendance when Taylor tried to become a two-division undisputed champion at the 3Arena in Dublin. However, “Notorious” did not hear the decision he was hoping for as Chantelle Cameron spoiled Taylor’s attempt to make history by securing a majority decision win after 10 rounds of boxing.

In a video uploaded on YouTube, the former UFC two-division champion was seen holding his breath as the announcer read the judges’ decision. McGregor couldn’t hide his devastation upon hearing Cameron beat Taylor, 95-95, 94-96 and 94-96.

Despite his compatriot’s defeat, McGregor still congratulated Taylor for putting on a great performance for Ireland.

“Another amazing fight for you,” McGregor told Taylor moments after the decision. “Another day, another day for Katie Tay. Love you to bits, I love you.”

McGregor has long been a supporter of Taylor and vice versa. In fact, Taylor even once hailed “Notorious” as the “Muhammad Ali of UFC.”

A Potential Rematch

Taylor’s loss to Cameron was her first as a professional. Prior to that, she has gone unbeaten in 22 consecutive fights, earning the IBF, WBO, WBA, and WBC world lightweight titles in the process. She was eager to prove that she could also do the same at super lightweight but it appears that she might have to go back to the drawing board and figure out her mistakes.

But as early as now, Taylor is already gunning for a possible rematch with Cameron.

“I was expecting a gruelling fight and that’s what it was. I obviously came up short. I always love a challenge and I’m looking forward to the rematch,” Taylor said after the fight. “This isn’t how I wanted the homecoming to go but I’m grateful that this event could sell out in a couple of minutes.”
