‘Boxing Is Like That’: Canelo Alvarez Reacts To Dmitry Bivol Defeat, Calls For Rematch

Alvarez suffered his first loss since 2013 following a unanimous decision defeat to Bivol last night.

Canelo Alvarez may have lost, but he’s keeping his head held high.

Alvarez suffered his first defeat since 2013 after getting outboxed by Dmitry Bivol over 12 rounds in their light heavyweight title fight last night.

There were doubts as to whether Bivol would get the nods of the judges, and while the scorecards were questionable, all three judges had the same scores for the Russian who won a unanimous decision.

While Bivol is one of the best light heavyweights on the planet and was the bigger man, Alvarez was still expected to win, which is why the result was viewed as an upset.

However, Alvarez offered no excuses during his post-fight interview.

“He’s a great champion. Sometimes in boxing, you win or lose. I lost today and he won,” Alvarez said. “He’s a really good fighter. He’s a fighter who comes in and goes out. I also felt his power. It was a good victory for him.”

Alvarez would later post a statement:

“Boxing is like that. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but always with your head held high. I stay with the great fight that we offered to the people. We will fight again and we will win again.”

Dmitry Bivol Open To Canelo Alvarez Rematch

Alvarez would also call for a rematch with Bivol in his post-fight interview. With a rematch clause included during negotiations for the fight, it’s certainly a possibility.

For his part, Bivol has no problem running things back with the Mexican. However, he wants to be treated like a champion this time.

“A rematch? No problem. Let’s talk about a rematch,” Bivol said. “I took this fight because I just wanted the opportunity and I appreciate the opportunity. I am ready for the rematch, I just want to make sure I win and am treated like a champion now.”

How do you see a rematch going between Dmitry Bivol and Canelo Alvarez?
