Canelo Alvarez Vs. Gennady Golovkin Rematch Is On

A much-anticipated boxing match between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and “GGG” Gennady Golovkin has been set for May 5 on HBO pay-per-view (PPV). The site of the fight has yet to be determined.

The two of the pound-4-pound best Alvarez, the reigning Ring middleweight champion, and Golovkin, the current WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO first competed against one another last September in a back and forth affair that resulted in a split draw after 12 great rounds of action.

Many believed that Golovkin won the later rounds of the fight, but Judge Byrd only gave him the fourth and seventh rounds. Judge Adelaide Byrd came under extreme fire for her absurd 118-110 card in favor of “Canelo.”

So finally a rematch between two of the best boxers in the world is official and no worries now, they will get to try and settle things one more time. Golden Boy Boxing Promotions announced the news first.

Gennady Golovkin, 35, is 37-0-1 with 33 knockouts and currently holds the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBC world middleweight titles.

Prior to the first fight, Canelo Alvarez had won seven-straight fights since suffering a decision loss to Floyd Mayweather back in 2013. Alvarez, 27, is 49-1-2 on his career with 34 knockouts.

A word from both boxers.

“I am ready to battle Canelo again and am happy he took this fight again,” Golovkin said. “This is the fight the world wants. This is the fight boxing deserves. I didn’t agree with some of the judges’ decisions in the first fight. This time there will be no doubt. I am leaving the ring as the middleweight champion of the world.”

“I’m delighted to once again participate in one of the most important boxing events in history,” Alvarez said. “This second fight is for the benefit and pleasure of all fans who desire to see the best fight the best. This time, Golovkin won’t have any excuses regarding the judges because I’m coming to knock him out.”

Who do you think will come out victorious in this highly anticipated rematch?
