Rumors are swirling that boxing champion Canelo Alvarez and social media sensation-turned-boxer Jake Paul will go head-to-head this May. Boxing reporter Julius Julianis shared the news, stating that sources close to the situation have confirmed the fight is in the works. The bout is expected to be co-promoted by Canelo Promotions, MVP, and PBC, potentially taking place on the highly anticipated Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Julianis revealed the news on X, writing, “There is already an agreement for Jake Paul to be Canelo Álvarez’s rival in May of this year, a source very close to the operation informs me. The event will be co-promoted by Canelo Promotions & MVP & PBC.”

Can Paul Shock the Boxing World?

Paul has been eyeing a match with Alvarez for years, believing it was only a matter of time before they faced off. In November, he discussed the possibility on his podcast, saying he was confident the fight would happen. His last fight took place in November when he secured a unanimous decision victory over former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. While Tyson had taken part in an exhibition match in 2020, his last official fight before stepping into the ring with Paul was nearly two decades ago.

Alvarez, one of boxing’s most dominant champions, last competed in September when he successfully defended his WBA, WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles against Edgar Berlanga.

If the fight is made official, it will be one of the biggest events of the year, drawing massive attention from both boxing purists and casual fans. Whether Paul can handle Alvarez’s elite skill set remains to be seen, but the potential clash is already fueling plenty of debate in the fight world.
