- Edgar Berlanga apologized for attempting to bite his opponent in the middle of their fight
- The boxing rising star has already been dubbed by some as “Puerto Rican Mike Tyson” prior to the incident
Edgar Berlanga is an unbeaten super middleweight boxer who has added another huge victory to his name this past weekend. However, none of that is the reason why the sport is buzzing about him. Instead, it was because of his unsportsmanlike behavior, having attempted to bite his opponent, “Mike Tyson style.”
Berlanga denied it at first
It was during a clinch in the seventh round when Berlanga decided to open his mouth and seemingly sink his teeth in on the side of the neck of his opponent, Roamer Angulo.

The referee has let it slide and Berlanga went on and put on an impressive performance against Angulo and pulled off a unanimous decision win. He denied biting his opponent when asked about it after the fight.
“He kept throwing elbows and, you know, head-butted me and stuff. So, I was telling him like, ‘Yo, chill!’ You know, like I didn’t wanna get cut or anything. But I don’t know – I just got aggressive in there, Mike Tyson style. You know? I got a little carried away,” he said.
Coming clean
After a day of self-reflection, Berlanga confessed the truth on Twitter and issued a public apology for his “Mike Tyson bite” on Angulo. The 25-year-old swore to be “more mindful” of his behavior regardless of how the fight is playing out in the future.
“I want to apologize for my actions and what I said yesterday about the Mike Tyson bite,” Berlanga tweeted. “I was in the moment and got a little ahead of myself. It doesn’t take away from the embarrassment that I have caused upon myself, my team, top ranks, and many others.”

The Puerto Rican Mike Tyson
Some may not know but Berlanga has already been drawing comparisons with Tyson due to his vicious knockout power. After the biting incident with Angulo, many would surely conclude that Berlanga, a.k.a. “Puerto Rican Mike Tyson” really is like “Iron Mike” both in power and antics.
