Ben Whittaker capped off his 2025 campaign in spectacular fashion, delivering a first-round knockout over Germany’s Benjamin Gavazi at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England. The bout, part of his Matchroom Boxing debut, showcased Whittaker’s precision and power from the opening bell.

Whittaker (10-0-1, 7 KOs) wasted no time establishing dominance. Midway through the opening round, he landed a series of clean punches, forcing Gavazi (19-2, 13 KOs) onto the back foot. A thunderous right hand followed moments later, flooring Gavazi and ending the contest in less than three minutes. The victory earned Whittaker the vacant WBC Silver light heavyweight title and marked a highlight in his professional career.

While the win brought celebration in the ring, Whittaker received unwelcome news after returning home. The fighter revealed that his residence in Wednesbury, West Midlands, had been burgled during his fight night.

Highs and Lows: Victory Shadowed by Burglary

“Highs and lows of the sport. Come back [from my fight], house has been burgled. But Wednesbury, I got a big, big reward. Find these people — let me know. They’ve even took my IBF [International] belt. What are they going to do with that?” Whittaker said on social media.

Such incidents are not unusual among high-profile boxers. Other fighters, including Manny Pacquiao, Naoya Inoue, and Ryan Garcia, have faced home burglaries while away for fights or announcements. The trend extends to MMA as well, with Marlon Vera and Ciryl Gane experiencing similar thefts while traveling for competition.

Whittaker’s performance in Birmingham reinforced his status as one of the sport’s rising light heavyweight talents. Ranked No. 9 in the WBC prior to the fight, his decisive victory is expected to move him into the top five of the sanctioning body’s rankings. With David Benavidez planning to move to cruiserweight in 2026, Whittaker could find himself in contention for the full WBC world title next year.

The Olympic silver medalist, under the guidance of trainer Andy Lee, demonstrated that his combination of technical skill and knockout power can produce fast, emphatic results. Whittaker’s next fight is anticipated to be his U.S. debut in early 2026, where fans hope he can continue his undefeated streak and secure additional championship opportunities.
