- Alex Pereira is also interested in fighting Oleksandr Usyk
- “Poatan” believes the UFC will be on the same page and make it happen
Alex Pereira is very open to fighting Oleksandr Usyk and is confident the UFC and some boxing organizers could make it come true.
The feeling is mutual
Speaking to Mark Bouris during an interview in Sydney, “Poatan” shared his honest thoughts on Usyk’s interest in having a “show fight” with him. As expected, the unified world boxing champion’s callout did not go unnoticed. According to the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion, the feeling has been mutual and there’s a great chance it could happen with the UFC on good terms with some people in boxing.
“I’ve said that before, that I would really like to do a boxing match and was asked against who. Since I’m the champion, I said it would have to be against a champion, and he’s the champion. And now he’s given an interview and mentioned my name,” Pereira said of potentially facing Usyk.
“That’s something I want, and he also wants it, and both organizations, boxing and the UFC, are working kind of together now, so I believe this fight can happen,” he added.
Alex has a title fight to worry about before Usyk
Pereira appears to be looking forward to a lot of big things ahead of him. Before expressing his desire to fight Usyk, the Brazilian already verbally agreed to take on UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis. However, above all else, Pereira has an upcoming title fight with Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313 that he has to focus on.
Some analysts are already concerned about how serious “Poatan” is heading into his next title defense. UFC 313 will take place on March 8th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
