Rafael Lovato Jr. Is The New Bellator 185-Pound Champ After Majority Decision Win Over Gegard Mousasi!

Bellator London airs live tonight (Saturday, June 22, 2019) from SSE Arena in the capital of England. Welcome to the main event of the evening, where the current champion Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi defends his 185-pound belt against dangerous undefeated BJJ black belt and former Legacy FC king, Rafael Lovato Jr.

Mousasi wears red gloves and black/white shorts, while Rafael Lovato Jr. has blue gloves and white/black trunks. Our referee is Leon Roberts. The title bout kicks off!

Round 1

Lovato opens up with the first leg kick and a jab. He throws body kick, Gegard eats it. The crowd yells for the champion. Great right hand and a combo Mousasi, Lovato counters well and pushes him against the fence. Mousasi breaks free, awesome move.

But it seems Lovato isn’t slowing down, he takes the champion down at 2:23, what a move!

Mousasi defends well, great butterfly guard stops Lovato from progressing to the full mount, but Rafael is very persistent. Oh, no, Lovato passes to side control, he almost had Mousasi for D’Arce but the champ defends well, this hand saved him. Mousasi gets away well, 10-9 Lovato.

Round 2

Another takedown Lovato, Mousasi is now pressed against the fence.

Mousasi is having a hard time, but he stands up at 1:36, Lovato tries to throw him, but Gegard keeps the balance well and delivers a solid knee to the head, but it didn’t land clean. Leon Roberts takes a closer look, but there is an action on the cage, so he doesn’t separate fighters.

Knee to the body Lovato. Jabs, right hook, and an outstanding body shot by Gegard Mousasi, is he getting back into the fight? Body kick Lovato, but a big jab to the chin landed by Mousasi, it seems Lovato has no solution for those quick strikes. Much closer round, but I think 10-9 Mousasi.

Round 3

Mousasi delivers brutal hands and leg kicks early on. Lovato tries to trip Mousasi but ends up on the fence, Mousasi standing, Lovato is on his back. Lovato tries to knee him from behind, going for the leg sweep.

The referee warns Mousasi to stay away from grabbing fence!

Lovato gets the takedown, and delivers right elbow, Mousasi in trouble!

Lovato is in the full mount, but Mousasi rolls and tries to get up, great move. Mousasi spins on the body triangle, ends up on top, wonderful transition!!!

Lovato tries to go for a sweep but Mousasi intercepts him with a brutal nasty elbow, and now Lovato is bleeding, Mousasi now stands up raining hammer-fists and brutal punches to his opponent, Lovato defends well but he still bleeds. Wow, now Mousasi presses him against the cage and rains jackhammers, he looks so furious. The end of the round, 10-9 Mousasi.

Round 4

The championship rounds begin. Mousasi comes forward, connects brutal punches, he targets all over Lovato’s face, those strikes are nasty. The swelling under Lovato’s left eye might create him vision issues, but Lovato isn’t giving up yet.

Lovato circles and moves away, but Mousasi catches his kicks him before letting it go, Lovato ends up on his butt and challenges Mousasi to jump on the top. But no, Gegard doesn’t want it, and Lovato must stand up.

Oh, but a great shot drops Lovato against the fence, this is a world-class strike by Mousasi, blood is streaming out of Rafael’s face. Mousasi spins, Roberts separates the fighters up.

The hall is chanting Mousasi’s name. Mousasi steps out of takedown attempt, kicks Lovato to the legs, awesome defense, left side of Lovato’s face is covered in blood! Amazing right hand by Gegard Mousasi, the round ends. 10-9 Gegard.

Round 5

Lovato shoots very hard, gets a double leg takedown, Mousasi sits up against the fence.

Lovato tries to prevent him from standing up, and now he pulls the hips down to stop the transition attempt. Butterfly guard Mousasi, he defends well from passing. Lovato takes the back, Mousasi nearly ends up on top but Lovato saves the attempt in the last second. Body triangle Lovato, he tries to push the arm under the chin, but Mousasi has excellent choke defense.

Lovato keeps holding Mousasi in a great position, but he is unable to finish him. He lands hammer-fists, 50 seconds left. Body triangle Lovato, Mousasi can’t break free, but is it too late for Lovato? 10-9 Lovato, let’s see what judges say.

Final Result: 47-47 even, 48-47 X2 for the majority winner and NEW champion Rafael Lovato Jr.
