- Bellator’s Daiane Silva was hospitalized due to sever weight cutting which led to coma
- Reports state that the Brazilian has been improving but Bellator has remained silent
Bellator fighter Daiane Silva is still hospitalized following weight-cut complications which led to an induced coma but the promotion has yet to address the issue.
Silva is improving but still in the hospital
The Brazilian was set to face Eman Almudhaf in a featherweight showdown at Bellator Champions Series: London which took place on Sept. 14. However, “Lady Dai” began to suffer dehydration and other physical ailments amidst the weight-cutting process, per MMA Junkie, citing an unnamed source.
Silva was then taken to the hospital where she spent the next several weeks in coma. At this point, the 29-year-old has reportedly been improving, having “displayed increasing levels of consciousness throughout this week.”
Silva’s manager Alex Davis of Davis MMA Management discussed the matter to MMA Junkie and mentioned that his team and Bellator have been working hand in hand in ensuring Silva’s recovery.
“Daiane had an accident as she made weight for her debut in Bellator in London,” Davis said. “She was promptly seen by a doctor and was transported to a hospital in very delicate condition. She was admitted and has been kept in Intensive Care Unit since. She has been under careful medical treatment, and has been steadily improving.”
“Bellator, myself, her team, her doctor and the medical team at the hospital having been working closely together to support her and help her get well. Please join us in our support and well wishes for her and her family as she recovers from a very difficult situation. I would also like to commend Bellator’s support through all of this,” he added.
Davis also noted that Bellator paid Silva’s purse and even covered the travel expenses of her relative from Brazil to accompany her in the hospital.
Newly-crowned PFL featherweight champion Cris Cyborg also voiced her concern and regret about her compatriot.
“It’s really sad,” Cyborg said. “She had a tough cut. … It’s sad. We just pray for her and hope she recovers fast. I know she’s in a bad situation, but we pray for her and support for her so she can come back soon.”

Bellator has remained silent
Despite the positive update, Yahoo Sports’ Drake Riggs suggests that the truth about Silva’s condition has remained “under wraps.”
“Can confirm she was in a coma and is still there, although her current status is unknown. Everything has been eerily quiet as I’ve been tracking this story since it happened… It’s been kept under wraps because PFL and employees have been explicitly told not to talk about it,” he wrote on X.

At the time this article was published, Bellator has yet to address the issue publicly.
Silva has been unbeaten as a pro, having won her first three fights. She was supposed to make her Bellator debut when the unfortunate incident took place.
