Don Frye retires from MMA

You had a good run man. Yeah, we all would still have liked to seen you brawl with King Mo but it’s cool. We all thought your fight with Takayama was one of the best bouts in MMA and your staredown with James Thompson was epic. Oh yeah, you had that movie which was…alright. Whatever you do with yourself, thanks for everything you’ve done for UFC and Pride FC not to mention your rantings on how Russians are the last real men on the planet. Here’s what Don Frye told MMAWeekly about his retirement from MMA.

I’m pretty much quitting MMA. I’ve had enough of the [expletive]. I’m done with it. The competitive urges still flow through me, but I’m tired of the [expletive] of the promoters.

“I’m tired of the [expletive] treatment, being lied to and tired of getting bounced checks from people. They can go pound sand as far as I’m concerned.”

“I’m taking acting lessons up in Scottsdale from Peter Stelzer and his wife, Marla Finn. They’re putting up with me enough to take my money and correct my stupidity.”

“It’s hard work. It’s not like you just stand there in front of the camera, make faces and read lines – you’ve got to put effort into it.”

“The fight game isn’t a respectful profession any more. They’ve made a mockery out of it by letting Jose Canseco fight, and now Hershel Walker, and all these other jackasses in their 40s who have never fought.

“They’re getting paid more than the guys who have been putting years into it. It’s an embarrassment and a shame.”

Well good luck with those acting lessons man. Your appearance in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was pretty entertaining and now I will stop talking about you as if you were in the next room.  [Source]
