The UFC waves goodbye to Jake Shields

I used to date this chick that claimed Jake Shields was her favorite fighter — and I never entirely bought her story. Perhaps there was some sexual innuendo with Jake Shields lay-and-pray fighting style that I didn’t notice — although upon retrospect I can’t see how that could be appealing to any female.

We’re on the slippery slope of getting just a little too dirty with this Jake Shields stuff, but all I really wanted to tell you is according to a report from @ArielHelwani, the UFC has decided to swing the deadly flying guillotine directly on Shields career this morning. This comes after a rather lackluster unanimous decision loss against Lombard at UFC 171, before that the last time Shields lost was in 2011, just days after his father’s death.

Now let’s remember the fonder times of Shields’ relationship with the UFC, like when he was invited to come to that Aldo vs. Faber card while still under contract with Strikeforce and Dana White showed him off in front of the camera.
