When I was thirteen, I owned Xpired.net which was essentially a hub where all the little junior-high school phreakers/hackers would download plans to build impossible-to-construct electromagnetic surveillance devices and other machines that would ensure you would never lose your virginity. There was a thing called 'HERF' which a few claimed could be assembled with parts from Radio Shack and housed in the enclosure of a standard backpack. When the device was turned on, you could allegedly aim the antenna at another electric device and disrupt the machine's circuitry. In short, if Homeland Security existed back in those days, I would have finished the remainder of my high school education in Guantanamo Bay. You don't attract chicks by coding HTML on a Friday night when you should be illegally drinking in someone's backyard. Not at all. When you're considered one of the greatest boxers and MMA practitioners at the age of thirteen, you won't have to worry about someone calling you up with a 36-hour notice to tell you they are unable to go to the junior-high school dance with you (don't think I forgot Alice).

Reshat Mati. Remember that name. He's the guy that you're going to be dropping your life savings on in Las Vegas whenever he joins the ranks of the UFC. It's great to see parents getting their kids into combat sports early these days. His dad was taught young, so he's bringing Rashat in young. If this continues to happen we'll see more and more of these stories where teenagers are seriously kicking ass out there.

What about the kids getting their lights turned off?

It's not a good idea to be taking concussive or even subconcussive blows while your brain is still developing.

I'm all for the wrestling/BJJ competition right away (and working on striking techniques), but I don't think it's the greatest idea to be actually fighting that young.

Learning technique and skill at a young age is all fine and good; getting hit in the head at a young age is, like, the worst thing ever.

Concussive and even sub-concussive blows (which are shown in this very video) cause fucking brain damage, there is no debate about this.

This will affect the kid's hormone levels, particularly his production of dopamine and testosterone.

This will therefore inhibit his physical, sexual, and psychological development.

It will cause early onset Parkinson's Disease, erectile dysfunction, irritability, mood swings, and, potentially, bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, and other cognitive chemical disorders.

Furthermore, training and fighting at such a young age is, in itself, working against the kid's goal, which is to eventually become an adult world champion.

He can't become a champion as an adult if his body can't produce the necessary hormones to build muscle or maintain health, if his reaction time is stuttered because his brain is damaged, or if his focus and dedication is destroyed by chemical imbalances.

this whole thing is an exercise in futility.

it's child abuse.

Good for him but I'm tired of hear that anyone that start very young is going to be a future champion.
You don't see boxing champions that didin't start training that young and beat ex-boxers sons, champions at a high level is more about the desire, the will.

Also, cuban boxers at that age already have 60 or more fights.
