Time and space is a funny thing. Most people are so concerned with the end of the universe as told by the Mayan Calendar to ask the real question: Why does the universe exist in the first place? What was wrong with the equilibrium of nothingness to suddenly spark into this giant mixture of sub-atomic particles, flowing rivers, celestial bodies, and a planet filled with human beings like we have today? The Law of Thermodynamics states that although our universe is bubbling with seemingly unlimited energy, on a long enough time span everything will succumb to entropy -- thus bringing everything to a cold and quiet void. Ultimately the end of the universe will reflect the period before the big bang in which everything was -- well, nothing.
