Thiago Alves is fighting John Howard at UFC 124 and we're all going to like it
A couple of days ago on MMAJunkie radio, Mike Pierce called out Thiago Alves and had some pretty decent smack talk regarding Alves on Facebook. On Twitter, Pierce said 'This place is as dead as Thiago Alves' and 'Thiago Alves to be featured on Biggest Loser on Dec 23rd'. He even asked Dana to gi...

Boondocks Saints 2 dropped on October 30th and it will peel back your eyes and shoot scenes of ultra-violence directly into your soul (which is is the only way to do it). Sean Patrick Flanery (the guy that was trapped to the chair on the first one) is a complete fanboy of MMA. Dude opens up on Fedor, Randleman, Mark Hunt and even Ubereem. Once again more evidence that '

It's funny he mentions GSP, because GSP is a parallel of Fedor at the Welterweight division. Both guys are so well rounded, there's no multi-role fighter that exists out there that can dominate them at all 3 aspects of MMA.
Like he said, there are individuals who are solely dedicated stand-up fighters, wrestlers, BJJ/Submission fighters who outclass Fedor in one of these 3 departments.
The problem is, there exists no magical combination of all 3 skills above that surpasses the sum total of Fedor's game.
Sure Arlovski can outstrike him. Big Nog is better at BJJ/Subs. Brock Lesnar is a better wrestler.
But everyone of those fighters is so one-dimensional, all Fedor has to do is exploit their glaring Achilles Heel. And while Fedor might not do it in eye-popping/fight of the year fashion, he gets the job done in the end.
That's thing about guys like Fedor, GSP, BJ Penn. They're not great at anything. They're good at everything.
Whereas other fighters in their division are so narrowly focused, *Cough* Brett Rogers *Cough*, they just have a giant neon sign on their forehead reading: "SUBMIT ME".
I make these points for a good reason. He isn't unbeatable but even if he is beaten this time or next, he should be respected as one of the best.
Having said that, I do want to comment on other things. I agree with what Sean said about Fedor. Fedor is a bettre than average striker, an expert submission specilist, and an elite grappler. His wrestling is suspect. as far as skills go, I wouldn't put him above fighters like GSP, BJ Penn and most importantly Anderson Silva. One of which you failed to mention for some reason.
Anderson Silva is widely regarded as THE TOP striker in all of MMA. He is also an Elite level submission specialist on par or better than all but the absolute purists. His wrestling like Fedor is suspect. His ability to force people into his specialty is what truly sets him apart from Fedor in my opinion. Fedor doesn't own any particular area in MMA and masterfully moves from one to the other to find where he has an advantage. While Anderson destroys fools who dare strike with him and submit wrestlers who think they can simply ground and pound him.
GSP too has more to offer than Fedor. I would put GSP as a close second to Anderson in the pound for pound category. His striking is at an expert level along with his submissions. But he, like Anderson owns an area as the best or close to the best. His wrestling knows no equal. And he too forces people into his game.
So I don't think Sean was off by any means on his thoughts of Fedor. Plus people who cry about Fedor and say he is the pound for pound king need to realize that there are two clearly more deserving people ahead of him. And to boot they are fighting the best of the best to prove themselves, and Fedor continues to allow his manager to milk him with less than the best fights possible.
Stood w/ a prime Crocop but has a hole in his standup from the 3 min against Andrei of which noone would call a 10-8 rd.
Pinned for a short while with Hunt but reversed Nog.
Did he see the Coleman rematch where the takedowns were 1 for 10?
These examples wouldn't be called holes to anyone else in the Sport except Fedor.
Unbeatable? No, of course not as noone is.
Is Fedor held to a standard soo much higher than anyone else? Yes!
Show this guy some real come from behind performances and see if he places these examples along with them. Mention GSP's and co' worst days and see if they belong as well.
One quick note though, reversing Nog isn't as impressive as just the surviving his submissions. Wresting is a different than BJJ.
GSP got caught, like Fedor will someday, and Anderson lost early in his career. Getting disqualified for kicking and knocking out a down opponent doesn't qualify as anything negative or postive.
side note mark hunt weighs like 300 pounds hes not an easy guy to get off you. And i completely dissagree that Andrei was lighting fedor up i think the best shot prior to the KO was a body shot by fedor.
Unless Fedor knocked him out on the feet pretty quickly, I think he'd have a long night with Lesnar.
I hate Lesnar, and I love Fedor, but facts is facts.
Mark Coleman actually shot in and swept people's feet. Brock Lesnar just falls on top of people. Big difference. Get glasses.
"facts is facts." O RLY?
I wouldn't count Lesnar out for sure, but he isn't in this discussion because this is still the pound for pound discussion. Brock is a bad ass, and I think in time he will be nearly unstoppable. But I think his glaring weakness should be his stand up and his still very inexperienced BJJ. I do know he beat Heath Herring, but he caught Health off guard with his explosiveness and reach. Plus he didn't continue to stand with Heath for a good reason. He knew his limits.
I would still chill on saying that he's anywhere in the top 10 pound for pound until his skill set gets more potent. He is most likely the number two in heavyweights but not across all weight classes. He is still getting by on his size and explosiveness. I do believe he is a smart fighter and learns fast, but give him time.
