Antonio McKee will only call you this word because he loves you

If I only had my recorder when I met Antonio McKee at The Ultimate Chaos. McKee says exactly what's going through his head at any given moment. That's his thing. He's an unfiltered stream of consciousness and I should have realize this before I walked up to him. I asked if he had any beef with ...

I couldn't go to bed without telling you guys two things that happened earlier this morning. Andy Dick was pumping iron at the gym I go to in Hollywood and the dude was sober. It looks like Mariusz Pudzianowski really has been working on his ground game

There's a special place in hell for people that drink, drive and destroy a parked Daewoo Lanos and wherever that place is, Mariusz Pudzianowski will be there to greet you by squeezing your head until it pops like a grape. The penalty for destroying the Daewoo is death by The World's Strongest Man ...

JZ Cavalcante vs. Josh Thomson is going down October 9th in San Jose

In the never ending battle of really cool full names, JZ Cavalcante has already defeated Josh Thomson. If you can't wait till next week, watch the first five minutes of TUF 12 right now

Alright, let's play a quick little game. I'm setting the amount of profanities emitted from Dana White's mouth in this short clip of TUF 12 at five, all of which beginning with the letter 'F'. Now do you believe that it will be under that number, or over that number? You can even make this a drink...

As an adult, I can’t afford a car so I ride a bicycle around NYC, but when I was a teenager I was really into cars. Back then, all I could afford was a Volkswagen Golf with some chrome rims and a broken catalytic converter. It was loud and annoyed my parents, but everyone else thought I had so...

Watch 'Backstage with Mauro Ranallo' or hate yourself for the rest of your life

Let me preface this by saying Mauro Ranallo owes me either a meatloaf or a quarter-chicken meal from Boston Market. I'm not going to go into the details of the arrangement, but Mauro knows. Dude has been ducking me since 2009. If, at some point in your life, you run into Mauro Ranallo, just let hi...

Now that Todd Duffee has been cut from the UFC, the conspiracy theories floating around are insane

This morning while I was slap-chopping my way to tuna sandwich greatness, I found out Todd Duffee was cut from the UFC. I cried. My eyes welled up and overflowed with tears. I know, you’re thinking that’s an overly emotional reaction to have towards a fighter getting the axe from the UFC -- an...

KJ Noons wants to box Mayweather and Pacquiao, both camps are interested

Leave it to Papa Noons to teach a couple of pencil neck geeks how a real man lives. That's an indirect quote from someone that read my Downtown LA afterparty story where KJ Noons' dad stole my iPhone and nearly choked me out at a bar. Pat Barry talks about the day he cashed his $120,000 check PDF Print E-mail
Written by Zeus

Pat Barry says 'dude' a lot which makes me think he reads the site. He doesn't actually, but he should. Just weeks before his UFC 104 fight against Antoni Hardonk, dude was eating rice and ketchup. He literally had nothing left to his name. In an interview with MMAScrapsRadio, Barry said that he really didn't have any other choice but to win. If he didn't, he would have been evicted from his apartment six-weeks later (been there done that...and I never even fought in UFC). Not only did he win his fight but he grabbed KO of the night and Fight of the night bonuses which resulted in $120,000 directly in his pocket. Last night, Pat ripped it up on MMAScrapsRadio and talked about the day he cashed in a check for $120,000:

It wasn't until Tuesday when I got back home that I got a knock on the door, a special delivery for me. I opened it up and when I saw it, I was like, 'What the...' They weren't joking man they seriously sent me a check for $120,000. I wrote to Joe Silva and said if this was an April Fool's joke, let me know because I'm about to jump up and down and take off my clothes and run around the street naked. They said it was real man, it was real.

I walk outside to get my car and my car doesn't start so I've got on a t-shirt and I've got some pink stripy shorts on, some flip-flops and a black eye. So I've got to stand in the street and flag people down, and I'm sweating...I've got to flag people down with a black eye and sweat marks to try to get me a jump.

I finally get this guy and I say 'Yo man, I have a $120,000 in my pocket...can you give me a jump?'. He was like 'Yeah man I'll give you a jump'. It looked like 'Hey man can you help me jump start this car I'm trying to steal right now'. I go to the bank, I'm sweaty, I've got the black eye, I haven't shaven in two days, I'm strung out because I haven't slept, I have green circles under my eyes so I'm like 'Can I have a deposit slip mam?'. She gives it to me, I fill it out hand it to her. She looks at the deposit slip, then the check, then looks at me and says 'Excuse me I'll be right back'. Then a manager comes out, a guy in a suit and says 'What seems to be the problem?'. I was like 'Well I have a black eye, that's the only problem I know this looks really ridiculous'. So he asks me for my ID, I hand him my license an he's like 'Your license says Pat Barry, but this check was written to Patrick Barry'. So I decided to be funny and tell him Pat Barry is in my trunk right now. He didnt laugh. So I told him take your time man do whatever you need to do because I have no where to go and my truck probably wont start when I go outside so you can just do whatever you need to do. An hour later he came back and everything was fine, the check was in my bank account.

Dude also said that there is a possibility that he may come out to Technoviking in his next fight which brings hopes to internet meme geeks all across the planet. Actually, let me rephrase in internet meme language: Oh hai, Can I has Teknovikin? Epic Win!'. Damn, I'm pretty sure a few brain cells were just lost reading that (it's alright, you wouldn't have done anything with them anyway. They were reserve). [Source]

It's pretty shitty how guys like this don't get paid unless they do something out of the ordinary. UFCs pay scales are pretty shitty. If Barry makes $12,000 from this fight and lets say he fights 3 times a year. Thats only $36,000. Walmart cashiers get $42,000 a year and they dont have to worry about being injured or KOd

Why do dumbasses like you think disclosed payout is what all fighters actually get paid by promotions. Higher-level fighters get a piece of the PPV (which can 5-10%, think about that for a fucking second, of say 800,000 PPV buys at $50 bucks a pop.) and gate buys plus its more likely than not a lot of their base pays are higher than the disclosed pay (simply because of taxing, licensing fees, stamp duty). Hughes, Franklin, Liddell, Vera and Couture have all admited to getting paid more than their disclosed pay.

That's not even including Sponsorship deals, promotional/advertising deals, gym sponsorship and entrepreneurial ventures like Xtreme Couture, performing at smaller sideshows on weekends, exhibition matches, etc...

Do you think the UFC operates in some magical bubble and all the marketing and advertising the UFC does is all free, they have no overhead and operating expenses, their workers are all volunteers and should therefore give every cent they make to the fighters? You don't have the slightest clue about running a business do you?

Fighters get paid very fucking well.
And another thing, what the fuck kind of cashier makes hundreds of thousands of dollars per year? Are you stoned?

In your debut, let's say you get paid $4,000 to show and $4,000 to win. If you win, your next fight you will probably get paid $6,000 to fight and $6,000 to win. The pay gets slightly better after each win. But the pay gets even better if you win by finish. I think.

He's a contractor so he gets paid in full and the onus is on him to pay his tax bill when the IRS sends it to him.

@ChromeOnly: That may be true but most of these guys make a small fortune on sponsorships alone. I remember when Keith Jardine was only making like $19,000 per fight but his manager said he got $40,000 in sponsorship money. Three times a year and comes out to about $175,000 a year. Not chump change by any means and that doesn't include autograph signings, seminars, etc. A lot of the bigger name guys who are black belts in BJJ get thousands to do a couple hour seminar at the local BJJ schools.

WTF? This stupid site cut out a lot of my numbers. I was trying to say that Jardine made nineteen thousand per fight, but made forty thousand per fight in sponsorship money which equals about one hundred and seventy five thousand per year if they fight three times and that doesn't include the thousands they get for autograph signings, mma and bjj school seminars, appearances, etc etc etc.

I sure hope Pat doest let the money go to his head and pull a "Ricco Rodriguez" and bottle of Hennessey to the face, do 6 lines the length of a human arm then drive his car into a tree, put the passenger into the drivers seat and fake like she was driving the whole time! now thats what I call a party!.. anyhow on a serious note.. I'm happy for Pat, it was a good fight. I hope this makes him want to put on an even better show next time out!

Pat's definitely an entertaining dude. He shared some great stuff with Karyn Bryant the night before his fight with Hardonk. Check out episode 3 of MMA H.E.A.T. on www.MMAheat.com. They've also got some funny-ass footage with Ice-T talking about his favorite beat down moves from back in the day.

Pat, this a great story. I am proud of you for not giving up and asking anyone for money. I know how you feel sometimes. You seem funny, smart and witty. Invest your money and you wont have to fight much more.
