In South American shamanism, world creation is an essential device that enables the shaman to gain access to an object that has been forgotten or lost in their present reality. Mircea Eliade calls the reality in which we inhabit ‘the profane’. This profane reality retains the flaws that hinder it from becoming the idealized reality accessed by the shaman. The constructed universe of the shaman may not be manifested at all but a shared reality that is only accessible to non-corporal deities. The shaman has access to this universe through the use of hallucinogens, a vital key that can access this universe. However, as we see in shamanism, the hallucinogen is simply not a fail safe pass into this realm. The access is granted solely not with the hallucinogen itself but the process or ceremony leading up to the ingestion of the hallucinogen. Peruvian shamans for instance, subject their bodies to several extremes in order to cleanse any impurities. These rituals may include sleep deprivation leading up to the hallucinogen, fasting for what could be several days, rigorous physical activities such as scaling the face of mountains under the guise of ‘spirit quests.’ It is important to recognize the female archetype that is apparent with the parallel of world creation and child birth and how it can explain this ‘work creation’ process.

I copied all of that from my PhD thesis to give you guys a primer on one of the many reason why hallucinogenics has been ingested throughout history, and to tell you guys I wrote an entire PhD thesis on hallucinogenics. I also didn't want to write anything new. That's the primary reason, actually. Basically no, freebase dmt is medically useless. It is an often overlooked fact that Ayahuasca ("Vine of the Dead") is named after not its DMT-containing ingredient, but rather the b.Caapi vine which contains an MAO-I among other psychoactives.

If there is any hope for a global entheogenic awakening, it is the growing interest in medical research of psilocybin springboarded by MAPS.org

Santo Daime. Wonder if any brazilian fighter ever took part on its rites... one of my classmates is a professed daimista. Dad visited the Daime place once. I'm not precisely sure where, but I think it was in Pindamonhangaba , 2 hours away from São Paulo city. The ministers wear sheriff-like badges, there is plenty of fruit to eat, and it looks like a christian church, other than the fact that it is on the woods.

He says the ayahuasca tea tastes exactly like you'd imagine it would, it has a wood-like taste. He nearly fell off his wheelchair, said he had visions or something, but it was all very peaceful, but intense and that it knocked him out. Apparently, he enjoyed the experience greatly. Afterwards, he asked jokingly if they could fill up a thermos bottle with the tea for him to bring for a barbecue. The ministers denied it, saying that it's all very regulated.

All in all, it sounds like a curious experience and I think Hardy would enjoy it and benefit from it. It is a religious practice, though, but dad was adamant that it was the closest he's ever felt to God and truth in his entire life.
