If you open up a bag of Black Forrest Gummy Worms, you will notice that each worm has a smile on their face. These worms grew up with the knowledge they were going to be stuffed in plastic bag and consumed at corner stores. People are going to sink their teeth in their little high fructose bodies and rip them to pieces in the name of a late night snack, and these worms are happy about it. I can only imagine that from birth, the greatest honor that could be awarded in their culture is to be digested amongst their fellow worm. The purpose of life can only be equated to the one true thing you want to achieve. If you're reincarnated as a Gummy Worm, be the most edible piece of candy in the bag. Unless you've lost a pet to coyote or bobcat or worse, lost livestock that sustains your family via business or stock you won't get it. Farmers do not see these animals as relatives of house cats - they seem them as they are: predators that threaten their children, pets and business.

I will say it again, there is a reason hunting happens, and overpopulation of any animal is bad for an ecosystem. Even if bobcats are not overpopulated at the moment, without hunting they would be and then what happens to them and other animals could become much more gruesome than a clean kill.

I volunteer at the human society and very much adore animals, but you guys need to think outside of the box as to what happens to these animals if hunting does not happen. If you want to get upset about something get upset that we keep building subdivisions where there used to be refuges for these animals.

On top of that, you are correct in saying that in certain areas bobcat numbers are low, even on conservation lists. However, not every animal thrives on every spot on the planet. There aren't many West African Lions in N. Ontario, so I'm sure if there were, hunting them would be illegal.
Where Matt Hughes is hunting evidently sufficiently populated with bobcats, where hunting them is legal, and even encouraged by state wildlife officials. (As I doubt he would post pictures of illegally poached wildcats). I'm not advocating the killing of animals for sport, I'm just saying that if Wildlife officials deem the bobcat population health enough to hunt, then people are free to make their own decisions.
