The UK has overcome its winter MMA embargo to bring you two-thirds of the action on the last weekend of February. So what better way to soak it all up than with this gallery from BAMMA 5: The one where Paul Daley might be fighting for a title -- and another title if he wins that title.
Sadly, the whole title thing was not to be, as Semtex must have been chowing on those Haribos again and weighed-in over his limit. The main event was rescheduled to a 3 x 5 minute round catchweight bout, without Shirai’s DEEP welterweight title on the line (or BAMMA's).
All was not lost however, as Daley made the most of fighting on home soil to knock Shirai out at two minutes of the first round and successfully employed several medical staff for the next five minutes to attend to Shirai.
Other notable fights of the night included Claudio Henrique Da Silva educating Jean-Francois Lenogue in a powerful display of grappling to win via RNC. Representing Team Helboy was Mohsen Bahari who dispatched his Wolfslair opponent, Leeroy Barnes. Local fighter, Leigh Cohoon, showed the audience what Manchester is all about when he came from behind to knock-out Rob Mills. Former UFC heavyweight champion, Ricco Rodriguez, grinded out a win over former TUF fighter James McSweeney, as well as a host of other great fights.
Some notable characters made up the attendance at cageside, Ken Shamrock who told me about his upcoming fight in Florida some time in April, as well as his recent hamstring problems. BAMMA champ Tom “Kong” Watson, who has now settled his payment dispute with BAMMA and will fight again, against and as yet unnamed (apparently very exciting) opponent. Joachim Hellboy Hansen was cornering his fighter to a solid victory.
