When we initially broke the news last month that Pat Miletich was selling his gym, we simply didn't want to believe it. What MMA fan would? There is comfort given to every MMA fan when they lay their head down on their pillow at night and know under those same stars, someone out there is getting beat up in Bettendorf, Iowa. Just a few hours ago the local Iowa news site, GlobeGazette, ran a piece honoring the great Croatian with anecdotes from Lil Evil, Matt Hughes and many more of the countless legends that Pat has helped produce.
"...Champions Training Center that Bettendorf-bred mixed martial arts pioneer Pat Miletich helped open in 2004 and will soon sell his share.
That sale officially will mark the end of a remarkable chapter in the MMA game, now a billion-dollar industry that attracts millions of viewers to pay-per-view, subscription cable and network broadcasts on nearly a weekly basis."
"It was just the timing," said Pulver, one of seven Miletich fighters who has held an MMA world title. "We weren't the originals. But we were all there to pioneer this to the next level. So, we were right in the middle of it all. It has been an incredible 10 years."
Major bummer. Midwest Martial Arts takes an extreme blow this day. Miletich Fighting Systems may be dead, but keep in mind you can still be trained by Miletich in EA Sports MMA. At least we know a small town in the middle of a frigid cornfield will have a superhero Croatian patrolling it's streets. There is comfort in that. [Source]
