When looking back on 2010, Strikeforce had some insane knockouts, Shark Fights brought us the new standard in MMA commentary, and the WEC gave us crazy shit after crazy shit right up until its spectacular end.

Yet, despite all the other badassery, my tortured sole will always remember when Mean University's Dean and senior professor of meanology pulled off one of the most vicious headbutts in MMA history.

Of course, Jardine knew this move was outlawed, so chose to headbutt the mat instead, but we can't let that little tidbit distract us from such a brutal display of striking prowess.

I think this is an example of the killer instinct that is missing from MMA at the moment. A killer instinct that says "I will headbutt anybody who gets in my way, and I don't even care if they are made of canvas."

Top moment for me was probably Chris Leben fighting twice in two weeks and not only winning both in spectacular fashion, but making both fights exciting as hell. Mauro Renallo's hair at Strikeforce Diaz vs Noons 2 is an honorable mention.

6th of February. UFC 109. A good back and forth round between Guillard and Torres comes to an end and little did we know that's when the show would start.

In comes Torres' cornermen carrying an innocent looking ice bag, little did they know the unspeakeable mayhem the faulty seam on that bag would unleash.

Just as it gets applied to Ronnys' back BAM! It splits and sends a cascade of frozen terror onto the octagon floor.

The second round is signalled to start but the ice is nowhere near cleared. That's when Joe Rogan notices. A few official looking guys scramble in hurriedly trying to scoop the ice into a bucket.

In the mele the bucket is knocked over sending all of the cleared ice back to the canvass. Joe is apoplectic by this point. Boom! The bucket goes down again and is sure enough followed by howls of derision from Rogan.

A change of tactic is needed and comes in the form of primitively sweeping the ice through the fence. Joe is still not impressed, and obviously neither are the crowd as boos ring down.

The pressure of it all breaks the three poor souls currently making a mess of the situation and they abandon their efforts. Big mistake! Joe is screaming instructions by this point, "GET BACK IN THERE!!" he cries.

The "three stooges" as they were dubbed, were ushered back in, this time equipped with towels. They sweep and flick at the ice this time. This new technique is far more effective and goes some way to pacifying Joe. They do a reasonable job and scuttle off, just as the second round commences.

Joe can see more ice, but his rage has subsided. The fight goes on.

February 6th 2010. We all remember where we were. The day Joe Rogan did unbelievably passionate play by play commentary on three guys clearing up some ice.

I would definetly have to say Shogun taking the LHW belt... the First fight was so close and could have gone both ways, and seeing shogun come in and completely dominate Machida with a first round KO like that... really made me reminisce of those Pride days. That fight gave me a slight glimmer of hope that Shogun will be as dominant in the UFC now as he was in pride.

Not to mention that same card, Koscheck got sucker-punched (Woo! Go Daley!) and Kimbo Slice's last fight in the UFC.. Truly a great night for MMA

2 am. The weekend before my finals. Being Irish this meant that Spike was about to start airing the prelims to WEC 48. So obviously, I decided to watch a fight or two before heading to bed. What began than was the greatest MMA event I have ever watched live, from actually trembling with excitement at Leonard and Chan-Sung, to utter disbelief as fight after fight delivered and to finally watching Aldo sickeningly destroy Fabers thigh.

I'd like to say it was worth it, but study was a difficult and... It was totally worth it.

for me it would def. be the cain velasques fight! i had been a fan of his since day one (becaude there are not many mexican mma fighters)and i wanted someone to be proud of. i always cheered for cain but i never thought he would defeat congo! when the lesnar fight happened i was with all my familly form my dad to lil brother, we never confessed it bit we had already made excuses why cain would loose. when brock came out with flying knees my heart stopped...i was in disbelief when cain got back up from the takedown. i was yelling at the top of my lungs! that fight has inspired me in everything i do that anything can happen...i was in awe of how cain won it was so emotional for my "old man" whos from mexico and me and my brother

Being in attendance at UFC 118 to see Frankie Edgar put it to BJ Penn for the second time. Im a big fan of both guys but Edgar showed he was for real and had more than just wrestling in his arsenal as he picked apart a legend.

there is quite a few, but the one that will stick out to me is the sonnen/silva fight. It had all the hype in the world, everyone on the forums were pumped to see sonnen get an ass whooping for yapping his grand canyon sized mouth, silva got a licken for pretty much 25 min than pulls off an truly historic moment that i will remember for rest of my life. I had a bet with a buddy of mine that sonnen would win UD and most ppl laughed lol, and as soon as i was on the lowkick forum laughing at everyone that i called it at that exact moment silva locked in the triangle and would retain the MW championship,.. ...lmao it was the most overloaded i ever seen the forum with ppl commenting, the site was even down at moments with all the ppl talking about it. thats mine even though it's typical. PLEASE MIDDLEEASY I WaNT THE SHIRT, I NEVER ONE A T, AND I ALWAYS DO THESE CONTESTS. IT WOULD BE FRICKKEN AWESOME TO FINALLY WIN.

I have two of them. The first is Maximo Blanco. 2009 people were starting to hear about him. 2010 brought us to his world of violence and pure unfiltered badassery.

I remember May 22nd 2010 when Cyborg was at Black Bear Casino in Carlton MN to watch Fearless Fighting Championship 4 where I had my 3rd fight and lost a split Decision war that included Eye gouging almost the entire first round while we were on the ground, a knee to the nuts, and spine. Ref Rob Mrotek let them all go except the knee to the spine, he took 1 point! I faught at 175lbs but was at 170 I was 230lbs at my fattest. I trained at Twin Ports MMA.

May 8th Montreal, my first UFC live event to see my all time favourite fighter Mauricio Rua in an epic rematch. During the first few minutes of the round I was extremely nervous because it looked like Machida was getting the better of him but out of nowhere wham. for me it wasn't really a fight that stood out to me. It was the notion that Japanese MMA stars would come to the USA and get destroyed. The first example was Shinya Aoki getting battered by Gil.

But gladly that steroetype was changed by three guys: Yushin Okami, Takanori Gomi, and to a lesser extent Yoshihiro Akiyama.
Takanori Gomi shocked the world when he absolutely caved in Tyson Girffin's face. Yushin okami came back and scrapped against Lucio Linhares, Mark Munoz and Nate Marquardt to get him a title shot. And Yoshihhiro Akiyama, showed everyone he's as much a scrapper as anyone in the UFC by going toe to toe with zombie Leben in a three round war, and hanging in their with Bisping.

And with the arrival of Riki Fukuda in The UFC. Another run in Strikeforce for Shinya Aoki. And a USA debut "The Crusher" Kawajiri. And Omigawa possibly going to the UFC.

Japanese fighters are going to stage a full on invasion of the USA in 2011. Bank on it.

I went to the UFC Fan Expo that took place in Boston prior to 118 with some friends.. We got in a smallish line to get autographs and pictures taken with Patrick Cote. Right when we were up he excused himself to the bathroom.

Fast forward to fifteen minutes later and he returns. He apparently had serious business to take care of in the bathroom, and apparently we had no serious business because we were still standing there looking like sad Canada fans manning an empty booth.

Anyway, the point of this is that we got our pictures and what not but I was not about to shake hands with Cote moments after he cleaned up a big boy sit down.

Jorge Rivera has a special place in my heart. Not only has he lost some and won some, but the guy has had to deal with the loss of his oldest daughter, who passed away in 2008.

Since that time, Jorge has been on a tear. He's won 3 fights in a row and his most recent performance has become my most memorable moment in 2010.

At UFN 21, Jorge Rivera absolutely dismantled and destroyed an over matched but dangerous Nate Quarry.

In the first round, Rivera dropped Nate Quarry two times and opened up a big cut which started the blood pouring. He dominated with GnP until the bell. In the second, he didn't waste any time. He immediately dropped Nate with a straight right and followed up until the stoppage.

"I asked for this fight because I knew Nate was a tough dude, I knew we'd put on a good fight. And that's what I'm here for, to fight for the fans."

My top moment was the first round of the Lesnar v. Carwin fight.

I was at Hooters with my roommates, all of us were rooting for Carwin (but being in the South, the rest of the bar was hardcore rooting for Lesnar). That first round was perfect, because I remember looking around and seeing all the rednecks looking forlornly at the screens, as if they had watched their God-King be struck down by a javelin.

For 5 minutes, we were kings.

It's safe to say that Stephan Bonnar was having a very bad year by the time the first half of 2010 started to close. The unexpected at the time beating at the hands of Jon Jones. The wild upset loss to Coleman must have been heartbreaking too. Then his back and forth brawl with Krzysztof Soszyński was cut short with an illegal headbutt still resulting in a cut-loss (that was in the shape of a 'K' no less!). He wasn't just fighting for a win when he rematched The Polish Experiment, he was fighting for his life. That's why my most memorable moment of 2010 is right after he knocked Krzysztof out. He bounded towards the camera completely oblivious of the multi-stitch gash spewing across his brow, and strikes a pose to the camera that told more than he could have said with words. His eyes as he stared at the camera reminded me why I love MMA so much.

My most memorable moment was meeting/shootin g the breeze with Layzie the Savage and Zeus at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons II. We all talked for like 20 mins by the press booths. I ended up going to the fight alone, and will never forget how nice you guys were to me.

My most memorable moment was Cro Cop getting knocked out vs. Mir . It was honestly one of the saddest moments of my life. Cro Cop was the reason that I got into the sport. I was a boxing purest and when I saw Mirko I thought to myself, yea I gotta get into this. Being the sick fuck that I am I not only convinced myself that Cro Cop could beat Mir but that he would make a run and win the title. I bought a Croatian flag in preparation for this fight I walked around with it for the week before it went to class with it everywhere. People asked me why I had it, my answer. "Because Mirko Fucking Cro Cop is going to kill someone this weekend" No one knew what I meant. I went to buffalo Wild Wings alone because all my friends are embarrassed to watch MMA with me. I sat in a corner by myself, as soon as I saw Cro Cop's legs go limp I slowly walked outside. Sat outside my car threw up and cried for about 10 minutes. That was my most memorable moment of the year. Yes I'm a loser I know.

In an attempt to be original, i picked Rich Franklin's victory over Chuck Liddell at UFC 115.

Chuck came into this fight looking AMAZINGLY toned and in great shape. Rich Franklin came into this fight unprepared, because he has Tito Ortiz's alternate after Ortiz dropped out of the fight due to neck injuries. Rich had around 3 or 4 months to prepare for a main event fight. Rich was coming off a loss to Vitor Belfort and Liddell was sporting a 1-4 record for his last 5 fights. They both needed a win to cement their respective places in the UFC.

So the fight begins, and Chuck Liddell is doing what he does best, kick-boxing, putting pressure on Franklin. Chuck throws a strong body kick that BREAKS Franklin's arm. Franklin continues to fight,despite having a broken arm. It is now four and a half minutes into the fight, and Liddell is seriously letting loose on Franklin. Liddell swings wildly, and in the final seconds of the first round, FRANKLIN COUNTERS AND KNOCKS CHUCK OUT.

And in the post fight interview, Rich says that he NEVER thought about quitting, and intended to give the fans the fight that they wanted. Amazing fight. One of the most memorable of 2010.

For me its any of Ken Shamrock, Jens Pulver, and any of the "old guard's" fights in 2010. I hate to admit it but, sadly, these guys I grew up watching are past their prime but for whatever reason (be it money, or pride, etc.), they can't stop fighting. It shows not only dedication to the sport, but the drive, and willingness of the fighters to keep going.

Lots of guys here are going to talk about upsets or great finishes, but to me the most important fights of 2010 are the fights that change the whole sport.

These guys have more heart and drive than anyone I've ever met. I think its dumb NOT to honor them for what they've done in the past. They might not be "Top Tier" fighters right now but their legacy will never fade.

After watching Cain open a vagina on Brock's face and the subsequent Referee stoppage, my friends and i began to celebrate.... Behind us an extremely overweight irishman began to yell at the screen that it was an unfair stoppage and there is a conspiracy against Mr Lesnar... The doorstaff came over to ask him to quieten down or he would have to leave.. His reply was to spit on the doorman and be dragged out screaming that Brock shouldve won.... He was led away in a police car... Strangest thing ever :)

The Akiyama-Leben slugfest. This was my most special moment of the year.

All along the fight I was like: "Ooooh.... Aaaah... Holy Shit!.... What the f***..." and I wet my undies before the end of the fight, amazed by so much sexiness and violence at the same time.

The fact that this fight ended by a triangle was a helluva f***ing ending too, didn't expect it. FOTY in my opinion.

My favorite moment isn't really something that will make you "say 'Oh yeah! I remember that!' when we read it" But my favorite moment was when I stayed up to watch Dream 15 in its entirety. It may not seem like a big deal to you guys or most people but it was the first time I watched Dream live, from start to finish. I live on the east coast so it started at about 3am and went to about 7am I think. I sat their by myself and watched some great fights, my roommate woke up before I even went to sleep and gave me a "wtf?" face. It means a lot from me because it was really the single moment that I told myself I could consider myself a true mma fan and not a zuffa zombie haha. I watch all different organizations around the world but this just stuck out as the one moment. Then later that night I got to watch ufc 119.

Another thing that really stuck out (not sure if this counts because it is a different favorite thing) I also got dumped by my girlfriend because of mma. It kinda blows because she was really hot but it was her or jiu jitsu/mma. She said I do too much jiu jitsu and watch too much mma. The next saturday I went to a Daniel Gracie seminar in north jersey and then watched ufc 120 the same night. After that she broke up with me the next day. She called me on the phone and said "I don't know if I can do this anymore, its either me or ufc" (yes she calls mma/bjj "ufc" lol) and I said jiu jitsu and hung up lol. That is all true and maybe I can get some love from anybody thats been in the same spot.

My most memorable moment was BJ Penn knocking out Matt Hughes 21 seconds in the first round, I expected the fight to go the distance but BJ went through him so quick I was speechless that I couldnt comprehend what just happened and my second is the Shogun vs Machida that fight I thought was going to be same but Shogun sneaked a overhand right if im correct and knocked out him out in the first round great fights and another is the cain vs brock great fight didnt last long but it was just awesome how both fought with striking and wrestling, also Diego vs Thiago another fight both went at it I couldnt tell who was going to win until the very end and last mr. wonderful won a fight with a weird move that not only got him the win but was named after himself by joe rogan what a great night

My personal favorite moment was when I took Arianny out on the town on a date. Im sure you heard about it on Twitter (she isnt good at secrets). At first I was hesitant but I finally gave in to her demand. The first 45 min after my driver picked her up was a bit ackward as she kept pulling at my pants. After she had a few drinks and calmed down we began to talk and dined at a five star resturant. Since she demanded we date she paid of course and I told her that I was interested in a massage. I would have enjoyed it but Dana White, Zeus, Joe Rogan, Brock Lesnar, Scott Coker, Cro Cop and the Gracies would NOT STOP TEXTING ME! I proceeded to impregnant her later that evening and to the day she has not left my humble dwelling. In fact im telling her to type this right now because Im currently playing EA MMA.

I remember a saturday months ago, a girl i met in a bar some days before wanted to come to sleep at my place, but using the line: "i ve a grappling match on sunday" saved me from sex affair during the Fedor-Rogers match night.
I slept 2 hours ( i m in europe and main events take place at 6 AM usually) then went to train station to go to the grappling tournament. Due to a strike, i missed it.
at the end: I didn't lay the girl, I didn' enter the tournament i slep nothing but I saw Fedor raping Brett. Overally it was a good weekend.. yeahh

Well, I thought long and hard about this and I came to the conclusion that Ikuhisa Minowa vs. Jimmy Ambriz was the most defining moment of MMA in 2010.

This was Minowa's first "unofficial" defense for his SUPER HULK TITLE, against a man who had all the right skills to nullify the great Ikuhisa.

I sat up watching the HDNet broadcast, furiously gnawing on my fingernails in anticipation for this battle of epic proportions, and when it went down, I knew Minowa would find himself on his back with Ambriz on top. Ambriz clearly won the first 10-minute round, leaving Minowa with a mere five minutes to either put him away, or stay more active and leave a good impression in the judges eyes...

By far my favorite mma moment of 2010 wasnt when chris leben subbed the favorite akiyama but was watching him walk out of the octagon totally in a daze jumping around sing rollercoaster of love by the red hott chilli peppers just after watching the ups and downs of the cripplers career to see him jumping up and down screaming rollercoaster of love somehow made me feel warm and fuzzy like hugging a kitty

Hands down for me it would be Akiyama's entrance before the Chris Leben fight. That's something you never see in American MMA and it was an incredible ring entrance that led up to an incredible fight! He had his whole damn school there!

Chael in general this year, but as it happens the best thing about this year in regards to Chael was when Wand gave him the low down on respect.

being at the sonnen/silva fight, hearing the crowd boo sonnen when he entered, then go apeshit when sonnen was on top pounding on anderson and chanting usa, then going ape shit all over again when anderson got the submission. craziest moments in mma for me, and ill always remember that as long as i love.

I favor that moment the most because I was fortunate enough to attend the event, I thought the building was going to collapse after the first punch was thrown. I'm not here to win a shirt, I just want to share my opinion.

In honor of this contest for a Jiu-jitsu shirt, my top moment in 2010 comes from the 209 in Boston at UFC 118. Nate Diaz, the badass lightweight that moves up to welterweight to dominate his opponents, opens this event against the hometown favorite in Marcus "Irish Hand-grenade" Davis. Marcus is a striker that was overwhelmed by the hands of DIaz, a jiu-jitsu expert, all three rounds, until the last minute where Diaz puts Marcus to sleep with a choke. This Battle gets the "Fight of The Night" bonus honor, the fans see the biggest eye gash and swelling I have ever seen, the Heart from Marcus to continue the fight without giving up, and started the good Fight card off with great momentum. Top moment in MMA of 2010 for sure!

As a big nog fan it hurt to see, but it brought about the start to the demise of Brock "please don't hit me in the face" Lesnar. Also it put the talks of Cain's so called "pillow hands" away.
