Fighting Wanderlei Silva is the equivalent of donating your brain to science without the reassurance that you will not be knocked out. In reality, you will most likely be knocked out as a result of standing on the opposite end of the cage with The Axe Murderer. Tonight, we saw this on display as Wanderlei Silva was dropped three times, but late in the second he remembered that in fact his name was 'Wanderlei Slva' and he's made a career of serving fighters a steady diet of 'punches to the face.'

This fight was wrapped in violence -- this was everything your parents didn't want you to be when you were growing up. Tonight's bout was a dream for button mashers across the planet.

Props to Wanderlei Silva (and Brian Stann) on an amazing performance tonight at UFC on Fuel TV in Japan. Now let's spend the rest of the night looking at these incredible .gifs from the fight.

this proves nothing. Pride still fixed all of wandys fights except the Hendo match. the only thing this win proves is that STANN is and should never been in the top 10 or anywhere near it.

War Hunt though for proving his improvements struve will always be tough fight on the ground for anybody.

Bev, no offense, but that's kind of weird.

This fight was everything I ever want as a fan. Fucking spectacular performance by both. I'm sure the loss is rough, but you can't take anything away from Stann in such a ballsy display. Shit was BEASTMODE(x2).

I was so stoked when he won, I cant explain it, but he needs to retire. he got dropped how many times? I jus dont want to see him end up like Ali. He will always be a champion. Every fight from here on out, Wandy will be an underdog. He wasn't expected to win tonight, and It's unlikely that he will be expected to win any future fights should they be against guys of equal or greater calibre. That being said, anyone that doesn't WANT him to win is just a dick.

Based on the post fight press conference, I don't think he's retiring after tonight. He showed he still has a chin, he still has power (knocked out a guy with only one other KO loss in his career), I hope he stays healthy and maybe plays tough-as-hell gate keeper to the upper ranks of the division for a bit, but the only guy who knows what's best for Silva is Silva, and I think he's smart enough to know when it's time to call it a career.

He still has a chin? He got dropped at least 3 times in the 1st rd. just like he has in his last fights. Having a chin is different then having heart. Silva has plenty of heart an thats what makes him bounce back. But it doesnt mean he can take a punch AnymorE. I just dont want to see him end up like Liddel.

Stann hits pretty hard... and they stayed in the pocket quite a bit. Not the hardest target to hit.

He proved that he absolutely does still have a chin. As painful as his knockouts in the UFC have been to watch, he's only been knocked out by Rampage and Leben... from full power clean shots... but I agree I would like to see him retire after that fight. He's been in some crazy wars, there's nothing left to prove and it is the perfect way to close out his career.

All the heart in the world won't let you recover from having the lights turned out completely. If he didn't have a chin, those shots wouldn't just drop him, they'd put him right out. No one wants to see him end up like Liddell (no one wanted to see Liddell end up like Liddell) but hopefully he's responsible enough to take care of himself, that he's getting CT Scans regularly enough (as any fighter should be) and I think that fight showed he's still got something left.

YES! told the group i watched this with that wand could still shock the world. he looks re-energized and even his chin seems to be back in order. thing is wand is sort of Alvarezish when it comes to getting dropped. when he fights a heavy hitter such as himself he's prone, but always dangerous. that fight was awesome and gave me a little bit more respect for that trained murderer stann.

i can't stop watching the gifs. wandy is insane. dude waves stann in then launches an monster hook right at his jaw. takes one and almost falls, gets up and procedes to wing arm punches at stann's skull while take in vaulting textbook straights at his face. i don't know about you, but i think it's crazy how he stays in the pocket throwing hooks from his shoulder against someone using better form. he must hit like a tank
