New Battlefield Outed as Battlefield Hardline

So when I think about Battlefield, I think about war, I think about large, sprawling maps, big battles and vehicular warfare. I also tend to think about how bungled the release of Battlefield 4 was last year and how the game is still not fixed or really playable yet, which is mind-boggling. That’s okay, though, because Electronic Arts is apparently attaching the Battlefield name to a game that doesn’t sound much like Battlefield anyway this fall.

So the new Battlefield has been outed as Battlefield Hardline, which will primarily focus on police officers. Yes, the new installment in the Battlefield series will be cops vs. bad guys in what is an interesting twist. Before you go mental over this not being a traditional Battlefield game, there was Battlefield Bad Company before, which was a bit of a departure from the Battlefield series.

The game is being developed by Visceral Games, best known for the Dead Space series as well as a stream of licensed garbage that tends to happen from big publishers. DICE will still be working on the multiplayer, which will apparently still kind of feel like Battlefield and have vehicles, but the modes are a bit more streamlined for smaller play than big set pieces like the numbered Battlefield games.

Expect more on this on June 9th at EA’s E3 presentation.
