The Ten Must-Have Games to Look Out For This Fall

The Fall is coming, which if you are a gamer, you know exactly what that means; it is time for all of the big budget, hyped games to be released and for us to all spend our hard-earned money on purchasing these games and hopefully playing and enjoying them. Maybe you haven’t been following gaming as closely, or maybe you’ve just lost your way when it comes to the release schedule this year and aren’t sure what is coming out? That’s okay, because we’ve been paying close attention to the gaming world and these are the games that we are most excited for.

Battlefield 4

This one kind of feels like a no-brainer to me; it is a new Battlefield game. Battlefield games have been providing some of the best war shooter experiences for years now, with a solid blend of simulation and arcade gameplay. It really is the best of both worlds, serving as a solid in between for gamers between the hardcore sims like ArmA and the flat-out arcade shooters like Call of Duty.

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V is really the big send-off for current generation consoles. It is the last hurrah and probably the biggest release of the year, if not biggest release for this generation of consoles. It’ll keep your Xbox 360 or PS3 plenty warm until the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 drop, that much is guaranteed.

Batman: Arkham Origins

It’s the third game in the Batman: Arkham series and yes, it will be in the hands of a new developer this time around, but that doesn’t make us any less excited about this one. If the last game was any indication, we can expect some cool new additions and for the gameplay to remain true-to-the-series while adding enough to feel fresh. I mean, no matter what you get to play as Batman and beat dudes up.

I’m still a bit leery about this one, but if there ever was a game that served as a tech demo to show off how awesome next gen graphics would be, this was it. It looks like if an Assassin’s Creed game was set in the future, which doesn’t seem like a bad thing. The problems with Assassin’s Creed has been the writing and failed attempts to freshen the series up over the last few games, so here’s hoping that Watch_Dogs delivers on that.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

We all know that this will sell a bajillion copies and that the same, tired arguments will go down on Facebook and message boards across the internet about if this or Battlefield is a better game. THERE ARE DOGS AND FISH AI~!

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

There have been some promises about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. At its cover, the Assassin’s Creed series is awesome, but there are some weird failings that come with trying to spruce up the gameplay every year or to make the writing come off as more dramatic. We didn’t need tower defense just like we didn’t need naval battles and hunting in the last game, it looks like naval battles will return, though, so I guess that some of you actually liked those? Needless to say, pirates and assassins seem to go hand-in-hand like peanut butter and chocolate. All it needs is ninjas, really.

Will it be exactly like WWE ‘13 with just a few tweaks? Will there just be a new outcropping of glitches that pop up to frustrate us to no end? Will we still play the hell out of it? The answer to all of these is probably yes. The roster updates and the Wrestlemania mode are probably enough to sell the game no matter what, but improving the gameplay quirks and the online can assure that this game will be fun.

Ryse: Son of Rome

If there was one game for the Xbox One that looked incredibly promising, I’d definitely say that Ryse was it. If I am to find myself with an Xbox One on day one (read: I probably won’t) and find myself at a loss for which exclusive to pick up, this one seems like the no-brainer. It’s a QTE-based hack-and-slasher that looks absolutely gorgeous, what more can you ask for?

A lot of what applies for Ryse applies for Knack, I think. If I were to pick up a PlayStation 4 on day one and had to pick up an exclusive, Knack stands out the most as the game with the most promise. I mean, it is an in-house produced platformer and it has some of that PlayStation Charm going for it.

Beyond: Two Souls

This will probably be the last great exclusive that comes out for any of this generation of consoles and I’m very okay with that. Heavy Rain was one of the most creative and innovative games of this generation that looked to push storytelling to the next level and Beyond: Two Souls seems to be following suit. In David Cage we trust.

There you have it, there are a lot of games coming out this fall and these ones are the cream of the crop, the ones that are going to be turning some heads and raking in the money this fall. So don’t find yourself stuck playing old games when the fall comes around, alright?

Ryse looks like shit, and Killzone looks more interesting to me than Knack, which looks downright remedial.

Best looking shooter this year imo, and thats the MP, which will run 1080p @ 60 fps

I really never got the Killzone thing. It always felt like just another shooter to me.

As for 1080 with 60fps, well, most games run like that on my PC, haha.

Being just another shooter is a bad thing, yet you look forward to CoD?

I was never a big KZ guy either really, and I have a friggen 6000$ geforce Titan (CMON!), but KZ Shadowfall has dat next gen level of geometry, particle effects, and texture work we havent even seen on the pc yet. Mostly because we are still stuck getting ports from 2006 hardware.

Check this thread, and you might reconsider.

"yet you look forward to CoD?"
Did you read what he wrote about CoD?

I guess because I included ACIV people are going to think that I want ACIV as well. I'd rather piss battery acid than play another game in that series.

Do people actually buy Titans for themselves? If so, more power to you, but I'm not sure how much of a bump it gives most games.

Killzone looks nice and all, but that still doesn't say much about it.

I really, honestly don't look forward to Call of Duty at all, it's included because it is a game that some people are going to buy and obsess over. ArmA 3 proper will be out soon, there is still Rising Storm to kick around in and Battlefield 4 is coming out soon, there is just no need for 'yet another shooter,' IMO.

Killzone has never been anything special. It's a second rate shooter, it's on the level of Crysis. They're both good game series, but I never felt I had to run out and get them.

None of the launch games make me want to pick up a PS4 or Xbox One. I'm gonna buy GTA V (maybe Arkham origins too) and hold out until the real system sellers come out next year.

you lost me with ryse (everything ive seen has looked horrible) and wwe(last years SUCKED, it has to prove its a good game before it gets any credit)... i know its free to play but killer instinct has me interested more then either of those.
+2 # Dave Walsh 2013-09-09 23:59
Quite honestly I have zero interest in Ryse, but like I said, if someone forced me to get an Xbox One and pick up an exclusive, that'd probably be it as I really didn't like KI.

Only three games I wanted this Fall are Rayman Legends, GTA 5, and Beyond Two Souls. All these games are currently exclusive to today's systems so I preordered them instead of putting my money down on the new systems with nothing to play. I'll wait till they have a must have game to lure me.

Nick Diaz is a character in Battlefield 4? Holy shit :o
+1 # asdf 2013-09-11 13:40
No Metal Gear?

I don't think that MGSV is coming out this fall, or at least it hasn't been announced and it would seem weird to not announce a date and start taking pre-orders for such a huge game.
