Yair Rodriguez put on one of the most interesting and exciting performances from a relative newcomer in years. Not since perhaps Wonderboy have we raised our eyebrows at such a breathtaking display of a nontraditional offense. It was fantastic, the way he destroyed Charles Rosa, even if he started to gas in the third and then throw up during the post fight interview. It’s cool, Yair. You deserve that puke. Everyone gets one?
Something that makes us want to throw up is the fact that the TUF winner only had $400 to his name before the fight, bro. He revealed this to Ariel Helwani in a post-fight interview:
I think less [than $400] bro. It means so much for me bro. I’ve been working hard. My last fight was in November. It’s a long time to fight this fight, but I’m so proud that I could be here and that means so much for me. That just Dana White just called me to talk with me and say, “That was a great fight.” And I’m just so happy. I’m going to keep moving forward and keep training hard.
It sucks so much for us to have to constantly write about these men and women being destitute before they do battle. If they are the modern day warriors, then they should be treated better. This makes no sense and I’m sick of it.
