So, this fight is five years after when it should’ve gone down, and it was only three rounds when it really should’ve been five, but Eddie Alvarez versus Gilbert Melendez delivered. It did. Gil fought well early, but still looked slower than his usual self. Still he busted up Alvalrez’s eye early, and it led to Eddie blowing his nose and nearly blowing his eyeball out of his skull:
Lesson learnt: Never blow your nose when in combat. #UFC188 http://t.co/mg1bjiUj0k pic.twitter.com/M47a18Jdim

Yeah. But then, Eddie dug down, reached into his chest, took a bite of his heart to regenerate his powers and then fought back to take down Gilbert, control the cage and take back the fight. I personally had Gilbert winning 29-28, but I can see how Eddie got the split. It was a damn close fight. Fuck it. I’m down for a rematch. Why not?
This fight didn’t live up to the mythic levels that it could’ve reached years ago, but maybe it could if we try again? Let’s do it. It was fun. It was. Don’t say it wasn’t. Alvarez versus Melendez II just seems right. Like the next Melendez/Thomson feud.
