Jon Jones Comes Clean About Nike Sponsorship Loss, Perjury is Afoot

In a move that is shocking to nobody in particular, Jon Jones revealed during yesterday’s UFC conference call that Nike didn’t actually drop Jones because of the Daniel Cormier brawl. The truth of the matter was that Nike opted to not further pursue the world of MMA, which is something I feel that most people are completely dismissing when it comes to this story. Sure, Reebok is going all-in, but Nike has decided that MMA just isn’t worth it for them, which in and of itself is a huge story.

The other fascinating part of this story is that Jon Jones committed perjury in his hearing with the NSAC after the brawl with Daniel Cormier. Jon Jones plead that he had been punished enough after losing his Nike deal due to the brawl even though he didn’t actually lose his Nike deal due to the brawl. Since absolutely none of us feel that the NSAC will do anything to hurt the UFC there doesn’t seem to be any sort of repercussions to this, but still. Damn.
