Kevin Casey out of Metamoris 5: So Ralek puts a $10,000 bounty on Vinny Magalhaes

Last week, we detailed the circumstances that lead to the signing of Kevin Casey’s match against Vinny Magalhaes at Metamoris 5 this Saturday, despite his relatively recent positive test for steroids.  But just days later, Casey underwent emergency blood clot surgery, and he withdrew from the event.

When these things happen in more traditional organizations, a fight is sometimes delayed, or the organization might secure an eager last-minute replacement from its existing roster.  But Metamoris throws more curveballs than Clayton Kershaw at a carnival, and Ralek Gracie has decided to essentially put a $10,000.00 bounty on Vinny’s head, hoping someone with a black belt in something will show up for an Old-West-style showdown.

He explained on the MMA Hour:

Normally, we would just replace Kevin with another person and make the announcement. But what we wanna do is invite the entire community of martial arts to engage.  We’re basically created an open opportunity for any athlete to come in.

You basically have to have a black belt in jiu-jitsu. If you don’t have a black belt in jiu-jitsu, but you’re like a really solid judo guy, or sambo, or something like that, and you have a black belt in that art, that works. But we’re open to anybody.

If you can beat Vinny Magalhaes, we’re putting $10,000 on the line.

If you lose or draw, you won’t get paid the $10,000.

If you’re interested in facing Magalhaes in a 20-minute grappling match at Metamoris 5, you can email [email protected] with your information (age, weight, where you train), photo and why they should pick you to compete.

Vinny is willing to fight anybody at any weight.  It’s pretty exciting. I’d like it to be somebody out of nowhere, that underdog story. That’s what I’m looking for.

So dust off that black belt you earned in Tai-Chi, sign into Yahoo Mail and email Ralek.  You could be the next great hero of modern-day competitive grappling.  Coincidentally, Kevin Casey did that very thing at Metamoris 3.  Unfortunately, you had better have a good chance at winning, or after you’ve saved the event and allowed the unpredictable organization to showcase Vinny, you might get absolutely nothing for your effort.
