Cub Swanson Was Told That He’s Next for Jose Aldo, McGregor Still Looms

In a way, I feel for Cub Swanson and the rest of the Featherweight division. There is an incredibly long shadow being cast by Conor McGregor at the moment over the rest of the division to the point where fans have tunnel vision in regards to him. He should be fighting Jose Aldo next, period, exclamation point. Cub Swanson is a guy who has a legitimate claim to a title shot against Jose Aldo considering that he’s had six wins in a row.

His next fight is against Frankie Edgar in November and while everyone has fantasy booked Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo in soccer stadiums already, Cub Swanson is kind of scratching his head at the whole situation. In fact, he’s been told that as long as he’s able to beat Frankie Edgar on November 22nd, that he has a shot all lined up for him.

The question now is if that holds up. Conor McGregor fights Dennis Siver on January 18th and seeing as though he is able to generate whirlwinds of hype around him, chances might be that he’ll stir up such a fervor that Lorenzo and Dana see dollar signs and feel the need to make it happen immediately.

The biggest bummer, perhaps, is that the UFC isn’t booking Conor McGregor vs. Cub Swanson and leaving Siver and Edgar out of this equation for now. Then again, the UFC has two UFC Featherweight Championship bouts lined up right now, as opposed to one, and they desperately need to be more forward thinking about their big fights.
