Jake Shields taps Ryan Ford in the first round at WSOF 14

Let’s get this out of the way – Jake Shields never should’ve been cut from the UFC. Unfortunately he was, because the UFC is not a sports organization, it’s a sports entertainment organization. Jake Shields was 3-1 in his last 4 in the UFC, and if not for a failed drug test, would be 4-1 with a win-turned-NC over Ed Herman at middleweight. Jake Shields was cut off a lopsided loss to the monster, Hector Lombard, but has two top ten wins at welterweight before his thrashing at the hands of the Cuban over Demian Maia and Tyron Woodley. The dude wins, that’s what Jake Shields does. He also probably does really well on tinder, because whenever that guy is out, he’s with beautiful people. He wins and surrounds him self with nubile bodies. That’s his lot in life, and he accepts it.

So what does Jake Shields do when he makes his WSOF debut? He taps Ryan Ford in the first round, which was his first finish since June 6, 2009 when he subbed Robbie Lawler in Strikeforce, and he did it with ease. Not to mention Gilbert Melendez yelling at him cageside for the duration.

Here’s Shields’ dominance displayed in an ever-repeating .gif, which I pronounce “gif” not “jiff” as even the creator of the .gif says it should be pronounced. It’s Graphics Interchange Format. Why would it be pronounced ‘jiff’? That’s silly, like betting against Jake Shields.
