Eddie vs. Eddie: Spike is counter-programing Eddie Alvarez against himself on September 27th

Eddie Alvarez is fighting himself on September 27th.  At the same time he is scheduled to fight a real, live Cowboy Cerrone at UFC 178, Spike TV is airing an “Eddie Alvarez: Free on Spike” special.  For zero PPV dollars, you can enjoy his 2011 fight of the year against Michael Chandler, and their dramatic 5-round rematch at Bellator 106.

SPOILER: Eddie wins the second fight too.  If he hadn’t, he might not be fighting on the UFC pay-per-view.  Oh the ironing.

It is a difficult decision.  Spike is offering you twice as many Eddies.  There is also no question you’ll get a quality product.  For instance, it is really unlikely the fights against Chandler will turn out to be boring.  On the other hand, the UFC is offering a bit more mystery, and an updated version of Eddie Alvarez.  You can see how his eyebrows look in real time, and you get to watch him negotiate the scary transition to the UFC.  Gotta pay for that, though.

There is no telling if this counter-programming business will actually work.  But whatever happens, Spike will finally end the “who wins in an Eddie Alvarez vs. two Eddie Alvarezes” debate.
