King Mo talks to us about the sweet future of Bellator with Scott Coker at the helm

King Mo is a guy that speaks his mind no matter what. Sometimes that gets Mo in trouble, sometimes that helps the MMA universe enjoy his electric presence even more. With an army of beautiful women dropping rose petals at his feet and covering his crowned head with various umbrellas, Mo is here to make you remember that showmanship is the second most important part of the sport. The first is kicking ass. He can do that too.

It’s always fun to sit down and speak with Mo, and hot off the heels of signing a new, long-term contract, Mo was in a happy mood when we talked the future of Bellator with his old boss, Scott Coker at the helm.

To start I have a multi-part question. Are the girls with the umbrellas going to come back? I miss them?

You know what? We’ll see, I didn’t think about that. I didn’t think about the girls. Maybe. It might happen. We’ll see who I can find in Connecticut.

It’s important. It should’ve been in your new contract that they find umbrella girls for you.

Yeah. Well, in the past Bellator’s walkout and entrances, three steps and you’re in the cage, so…

If you were to hire the umbrella girls, do they follow you everywhere? Or is it just for the show?

The weigh-ins, the press conference and the show, haha, that’s about it.

I want to see a video of the umbrella girls following you to the grocery store, just innocuous things.

Haha!

Who is your favorite king?

Ummmmm. Mannnn. King Booker T. Harley Race and King Lawler.

Great answers. Would you have re-signed with Bellator if Bjorn Rebney had still been in charge?

Uh, nah.

What’s it like to work with Coker again?

You know it feels great. Not just for me but for everyone. I feel like he left a bad taste in everybody’s mouth. The former guy. Now with Coker involved, it’s a good taste. It’s sweet, like candy or something.

What do you think the future of Bellator is going to be like?

I think it’s gonna grow and be great. I think people are going to watch and be entertained like Strikeforce. It’s gonna be a better version of Strikeforce.

You’re a student of the game, so I enjoy talking to you about upcoming fights. So how do you think Mayweather/Maidana 2 is going to go down?

I think Mayweather is gonna destroy him this time, it’s gonna be even easier. I think he’s gonna work the body and stop the fight with bodyshots.

Your buddy Roy Nelson is taking on Mark Hunt in what should be a wild fight, how do you think that will play out?

Roy via submission.

Are you still training in pro wrestling?

When I get a chance to. I have the fights. When I’m not fighting I’m working on my pro wrestling.

Now that Invicta is on Fight Pass, will you still be commentating for them?

I don’t know but I wish nothing but the best for them. Invicta is a great organization. I wouldn’t mind but that’s between them and the people who run Fight Pass.

Are you doing much work outside of TNA?

I’m doing little shows here, some for charity. I’ve got two coming up. If people book me I’ll go. TNA is obviously the first priority but with these indie shows I’ll do it for charity and experience.

I’m sure you’re much improved inside the squared circle, how do you feel about your work?

I get way more nervous pro wrestling than MMA.

Really?

In MMA people are gonna cheer or boo me regardless. In pro wrestling, you know, the crowd, if you don’t get the pop or boo, they don’t care about you. You never want to go out there and wrestle then have the crowd go quiet. That’s terrible. No one wants to see or hear that.

Do you feel like you’re still recovering from your staph infection? Did you come back too soon?

I’m still recovering. The problem my red blood count. But now that’s back up. I’m feeling pretty good but there’s still improvement too.
