Jon Jones Explains to Us What Happens When His Opponent Gets Dirty

Fans have been calling Jon Jones one of the dirtiest fighters in MMA for a while now, with things not being helped by his last title defense against Glover Teixeira where a good portion of the fight Jones had his hand on the top of Glover’s head in a prime place to get some fingers into the eyes. Like I said, it didn’t help.

Yesterday we caught up with Jon Jones during the UFC 178 press tour. No, there was no scuffle this time around and Dave Sholler didn’t go through a backdrop. Things were a lot more straightforward this time. We sent Layzie the Savage to the event and he caught up with Jon Jones while signing some autographs for fans where we got to hear what Jones thinks about Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz, Mayweather vs. Maidana II as well as someone asks him what happens when a fight gets dirty.

“I get dirty right back,” he responds. “I’m a dirty fighter, man. I am dirty.”

When asked about never losing his cool before, his answer is pretty straightforward: “I’ve never been tested, either, though.”

His parting message seemed like his response to not only the outrage over the last few days, but the entirety of his career thus far. “Realizing that you’re gonna have a lot of support, but you’re gonna have a lot of hate, regardless of what you do. So you might as well just be yourself.”
