NBC Isn't Too Happy About WSoF's White Pride Fighter

NBC Isn't Too Happy About WSoF's White Pride Fighter

Over the weekend World Series of Fighting quietly made their debut on network television with an event headlined by Justin Gaethje vs. Nick Newell in what was actually a super entertaining card. We here at MiddleEasy enjoyed watching the show, it serving as a solid way to prepare for UFC 175 later on that day, but things were amiss at WSoF 11. How amiss?

Racially.

See, for some reason in MMA we keep running into this stuff where the occasional fighter on a notable card will be sporting some sort of “White Pride” or neo-Nazi tattoos or gear. This isn’t a normal occurrence in other sports or forms of entertainment, but for some reason in MMA we keep getting these dudes. This past weekend Dustin Holyko appeared sporting the words “White Pride” on his arms as well as an array of Nazi-inspired tattoos. Stuff that is beyond being excusable, you know, like Lemmy from Motorhead’s weird obsession with Nazi memorabilia.

WSoF has already released Dustin Holyko after his tattoos and criminal record hit the internet, but now NBC and the Anti-Defamation League have spoken out about it, with NBC claiming that they don’t do background checks, but are going to make sure that this doesn’t happen again in the future, while the Anti-Defamation League had a whole lot to say (read here).

We are yet again kind of disappointed to see this Nazi stuff in MMA.

How is having White Pride automatically make you a racist? Grant it, he has other ones that make the picture a little more clear, but being proud of your particular skin tone isn't even the same thing as a (insert color) Power tat. I guess we can say Cain is a racist too?

I have always had an issue with any use of the word "pride" that didn't describe something you actually had a part in doing. Irish Pride, Mexican Pride, White Pride, Gay Pride, Straight Pride...even Texas Pride (and I am from this great state) seems dumb. Pride, IMO, is for something you accomplished. You can be proud of graduating college, getting a promotion, finally being able to speak in public. You cannot be proud of the particular patch of dirt your parents decided to fuck on. Anyhow, having the racist (the real word we are looking for is prejudiced) tattoos is dumb as shit and you can't get mad when a company/sponsor decides to take away your platform and not put money in your pocket when they disagree with you.

College Diploma Pride would make a lousy tattoo.

Discrimination is awful. I've read so many threads on mma forums (cough underground) that give Cain a pass on the pride tattoo. I think its crazy Cain gets a pass. If Cain does this guy should also.

With that said I dont agree with any of these shit tattoos. Neither should get a chance unless they remove the racist tats.

There was a fighter in one of the non USA leagues that had a black piece of cloth over his nazi tat. Of course it came off during the fight. Stupid.

Lemmy from Motorhead collects Nazi memorabilia for the same reason Jewish historians collect it; to remember and hopefully prevent history from repeating itself. Another aspect of this is it prevents neo-nazis and other racists individuals from collecting and reveling in it. Also worth noting Lemmy's dad was in the RAF and went to war against the Nazis during WWII.

Yeah, for Lemmy it is excusable. The dude clearly has zero "sympathies" for the cause or anything.

Just because I like being "That Guy", the British have a different relationship with Nazi Germany than we do in the states. By the time we entered WWII Britain had been rode pretty hard by Germany (to put it mildly), his obsessions don't seem all that weird to me contextually.

Yeah, i know a few British dudes who are big time into researching Nazi stuff, but hate them with a passion. It always struck me as kind of weird.

I don't know, I kind of understand it. I suspect if we ever get our ass handed to us in such a complete fashion as they did more than a few Americans would develop an obsession with our ass kickers. In my opinion its just an unfortunate coincidence that the Nazi's are such...punks.

What the fuck?

No there's a massive difference between 'white pride' and 'brown pride'

'Brown' people didn't kidnap humans from one continent and enslave them in another. 'Brown' people didn't hand out small pox, and massacre their hosts. 'Brown' people didn't colonize and assimilate everything they encountered. 'Brown' people didn't drop nukes.

Don't fucking compare 'brown pride' and 'white pride'. You're comparing apples and genocide.

Do the Spanish count as 'Brown'? Cause they had a hell of a time in Mexico before Colonial America invented slavery.

That's some of the most hypocritical, double standards shit I've read all day. Of course it's the same whatever color you have in front of "pride". History doesn't change it.

I agree with Space Pope. Even though I think Cain's tattoo is retarded, brown pride doesn't mean the same thing as white pride. When brown people say they're proud of their heritage they mean that even though they live in a white country and are looked down upon by certain people, they still love being who they are. For example, just compare a gay pride parade to a white pride rally. The word pride doesn't always mean the same.

I remember when I took my mom down to san diego. She said "why couldn't the Europeans be like the Spanish when they came to the Americas?"
I just went "huh? you mean you think all the people wanted to speak spanish on their own or change religions? You know Spain is part of Europe?"
You know africans gathered up other Africans and sold them to the dutch traders? You know the Spanish enslaved the natives in the Americas when they came? You do get why Spanish is spoken in the Americas and why religion is what it is?
Theres just the point that why do it at all? If equality is what you want then give it out equally. I think you and I both know what "Brown Pride" references.
You know what was interesting when the Korean zombie was like wtf why are you folks wearing a nazi like symbol the rising sun?
Just freaking stop doing it all people.

You know who else didn't do any of that stuff? The vast majority of white people.

Just saying "All white people are racist" would've been less stupid that what you tried to do there.

the reason i think its a "problem" in mma, or at least more common, is because its easier to get into mma than other sports. ANYONE can walk into a gym and start training with none of the other people knowing anything about you.. most people arent expecting to meet someone like this in their everyday life so they arent looking for it.. and then finally when there are enough eye balls it gets noticed.. i dont blame wsof too much for this but not doing background checks is a mistake imo

Finding pride in something you have no control over is messed up. The only thing a person should be prideful of is their own accomplishments during their lifetime.

The only time I see people with "____ Pride" tattoos is if they're trying to convince themselves that they have pride in it....like lying to themselves in order to think that way.
